Qashqai Model: Mk.3 Qashqai - J12 (2021+) New Model

Post by LindaC »

Hi I'm new to the forum and hoping for a bit of advice please.

Have had current Qashqai N-Tec for 3 years and loved it but coming to end of PCP agreement so will be handing back as don't want to pay the large balloon fee. Have now decided to go with a leasing company for next car.

I'm trying to find out what people think of the 19 inch wheels which come as standard on the Tekna as have heard things about kerbing and tyres also not lasting long (the tyres issue would be okay as will have replacement costs included in Maintenance fee), but I've also heard that these low profile tyres aren't very good in icy conditions.

As we need to sort the new car quite quickly we really need to go for one already in stock with the leasing company so unable to add any additional options.

My decision needs to be whether to go for the N Connecta and forfait heated windscreen or for the Tekna and put up with 19 inch alloy low profile wheels. I keep changing my mind on which would be best so any advice would be very welcome, especially how the Tekna handles icy weather.

Thanks

I can’t help with regard to the wheels but you can get the factory-fitted Heat Pack for the Acenta and N-Connecta models for £295. That’s what I did with mine. It includes heated front seats and ThermaClear heated windscreen. ;)

Just noted you said you won’t be able to go for any options. You might find one that has the heat pack installed. You could always ask 🤓

Thanks Sandgrounder, I'm so annoyed with myself for leaving it too late to go for that option.

Hi Linda and welcome. I think your comment regarding timing is correct you need to assess what Specification you need up front and if possible take a long test drive locally and where possible on a Motorway.
We have had our J11A Tekna from 2014 and we have some problems but now we are Just in the start of the 5th year and all is well with the “Bells & Whistles”.
Regarding the 19” Wheels there are the usual “Pros & Cons” on this but for us yes the ride is a bit harder but we would call comfortable and the wife has a back problem. We are still on the 1st Set of Dunlop Sport Tyres (Specs are different in other countries) and still have 5mm of Tyre depth just checked in July after around 16000 Miles.
Damage for the 19” Tekna Diamond Cut Wheels can be a Problem if not driven carefully “Kerbing” is the biggest culprit but if you use the camera when parking near to the Kerb you should be OK.
Regarding Icy conditions I would think you are correct regarding grip but then this would be for all Summer Tyres. We live in Germany and “Have” to have 2 sets of Summer & Winter Wheels & Tyres for 6 months of the year.
We have the Heated Screen and it is a real Bonus for Germany as it does get cold and the Ice & Snow is cleared very quickly. We also have a Webasto Heating System for de-icing, Engine and Interior warming but as yet have not used it.
In general we are very happy with our Tekna and are considering the newest version when it comes.
Obviously the choice is also a financial decision and it has to suit your pocket as also you have to consider the Maintenance costs.
So Linda I hope this helps you to make the right decision which is obviously in the end yours - Regards Dave :D

Linda, Whoops forgot this, just a “Tip” that is mentioned a lot but it is not a Negative. If you want more information on your questions just use the “Search” Area as this is where all the facts are it is time consuming but IMHO worthwhile - Dave 😉

Hi Dave thanks for responding. Sounds as though you are happy with the Tekna. I'll definitely have a look at the search area to see if I can find any comments 're how the tyres ride in the winter as at the moment that is the one thing that is making me hesitate to go with the Tekna. We don't have room to store a winter set of tyres to swap to unfortunately so would be driving on same tyres all year. Thanks again.

I had my Tekna for 2.25 years and never kerbed the wheels! :) One was replaced under warranty owing to corrosion though.

The ride was fairly firm but not as firm as my Fabia vRS which preceded it - also "45" tyres but 16" wheels rather than 19". The Qashqai's larger wheels meant less problems with bad roads. The Ignis is better on its "60"s.

I had the original Michelin tyres replaced at about 14,000 miles. I had Dunlop Sport Maxx fitted. I don't recall finding them a problem in "icy" conditions - I presume you're referring to the wider width of the tyre causing problems? - but the performance on snow was absolutely DREADFUL !!!!!

The Tekna can be ordered with smaller wheels but I suspect any stock cars don't have them. You could always ask and see what they say.

I agree with the comments from DaveBerlin.
Just to add my tuppence, go with the Tekna very get your heated windscreen and seats etc. If your going to kerb 19inch rims then you’re also going to kerb 16 or 17inch rims, it’s kust carefull driving!
The 19inch rims do give a slightly harsher ride but it’s nothing to bother about. I have the same view regarding winter driving, whichever tyre size you have, if you are having problems then you’re driving too fast and beyond the limits of the car. Driving on snow makes little difference, driving on ice makes next to no difference, you really need specialist tyres that are studded.
Go for the Tekna and enjoy it.

Linda, as gvmdaddy has mentioned most probably in the UK driving with summer Tyres in the winter is just down to driving skills, out here you have to Have and they are needed. You will find that under 7*C is the recommendation for winter Tyres, regarding storage we have ours stored by our Nissan Dealer for 6 months, inc wheel change, wheel clean for €60, OK an extra outlay but convenient and worth it as these 19” Wheels are heavy - Dave :D
