Hi guys.

I’m new to the group.
I have a 15 plate Qashqai j11 mk2. Tekna spec. I love it and everything about it.
For Christmas I have acquired a dash cam as I travel over 100 motorway miles a day my wife requested I have one.
It has motion capture as my workplace is a retail development so the car is at risk of being bumped into.
so I need it to be always live Essentially.
Now I know a lot has been said on here about dash cams. However I can’t seem to find an answer to this question.

I have a hardwiring kit to piggyback into the fuse box.
Now a couple of things happen.
I’ve tried it in the cigarette lighter fuse which appears to be always live. If plugged into this the camera is always live yet even with the auto off function it will not turn off unless I manually do it.

I have also tried a “spare fuse” which again is always live but this time of the start stop kicks in the camera turns off and then back on again. This one however does turn off automatically when the car is parked.

Has anyone encountered this before or is able to spread any light on the situation.

Thanks In advance.

I suspect you are attempting to permanently power the camera and control its recording behaviour with motion control. Is that right?

In a sense yes.
I just want the camera to be active so should someone bump my car the camera will record it. But don’t want it to be always in in the car.
Hope that makes sense.

Problem is it won't record to the side and rear of the car...depending where its pointing. So your hopes are a bit limited.

If the camera has its own battery you could leave it on with "record on motion" set. That'll preserve the battery for a day at least but will need fairly frequent charging.

I've left one of those recording for a bit too long and it took my car battery down...no start.

Welcome to this forum. Stating the make and model of the camera might help. I haven't set mine to "bump mode" but I think it does use the internal battery for that, not the power supply. It's a Nextbase 312.

It’s a Oasser amazing u3.
It doesn’t have an internal battery as far as I’m aware. I’m getting a tad fed up with the whole thing now.
I think I would just like it to come on with the car and go off after everything is all settled after stopping.
Also which fuse have you gone into as the start stop turning it on and off is something that is highly frustrating.

I've never heard of one of those. If you plug it into the accessory socket in the central glove box does it work as you want it to? If so wire it into the fuse that supplies that?

Such cameras commonly do have an onboard battery. I can't find a proper specification for it. Can you use it handheld/standalone?

The power control fuse we use is the windscreen wiper fuse which will power on/off with ignition on/off only, The J11 fuse for that is on the passenger side in a fuses bank/holder. Needs the glove box removed and existing fuse is piggy backed by another fuse with cable to camera.

My preference for using the switched accessory socket is that that stays on longer. Turn the ignition off and it stays on - it only depowers a while after the door is opened.
