“NISSAN dealers are preparing for the arrival of a new kind of numberplate this Autumn. The plates are being brought in especially for electric vehicles and have an eye-catching green flash on the left-hand side to highlight the fact that EVs are emission-free.” - Dave 🙂

A follow on from the Nissan Plans by the DM on the 70’s Plate & the Green Ones - Dave 🙂

“This year, it not only marks the debut of the 70 plate but also the sight of green ones for the very first time. Brand new zero-emission electric vehicles ordered this month will likely be the first to feature a green strip on their number plates, which is designed to boost the profile of battery-powered cars and pave the way for future incentive schemes, which could allow them to use bus lanes and park for free in town centres.”

The new registration plates, which are intended to raise the profile of zero emission vehicles on UK roads, are being introduced today (December 8) - Dave 😊

“A third of motorists in the UK would be more likely to buy an electric vehicle (EV) because of new green number plates, according to research commissioned by the carmaker Nissan. With 29% of people also looking to cut their motoring costs this year, it could come as a surprise to find out just how much an EV can help, thanks to a variety of existing financial benefits and the potential for more as local authorities look to encourage EV adoption.”

Well the Memsahib has her Leaf (and it’s genuinely very good) but no special number plate.
Registered in mid-November
She’s disappointed and I suspect Westway in Stockport will be getting an irritating phone call tomorrow.

So what happens to the idea of using that space to put your country of origin in ?

.
Well I insisted on euro plates for my QQ.
Her-in-doors didn't state a preference and so has a standard number plate with no country of origin signage.
Maybe the GB (in our case) would sit in the green patch ?

"A third of motorists in the UK would be more likely to buy an electric vehicle (EV) because of new green number plates" - really !?!?!?!

It sounds like they must have phrased the question deliberately to get a good outcome.

I cannot believe changing the design of a numberplate would make such a difference to the decision making process!

This might be of interest but it is rather a long GOV read on the Green No. Plates - Dave 😏

“Respondents also showed a preference for the design on the left hand side of the plate to be displayed in addition to the current UK’s national flags and identifying letters that can occupy that area of the plate. Government feels this can be achieved without appearing cluttered, or losing clarity or reducing the awareness raising effect. As reflected in the consultation document, government is advising those with the separate “GB” national identifier and EU flag (“GB Europlates”) that they should display a GB sticker on the rear of the vehicle when travelling in the EU now the UK has left the EU, after the transition period. We therefore will allow the green flash on the left hand side of the plate design to be displayed in addition to UK national flags and lettering.
Action: Though the legislative amendments, government will stipulate green number plate design to be a green flash on the left hand side of the number plate, and that the design can be displayed in addition to UK national flags and lettering.”
