I am not sure if any other members read this but apparently it appeared in the “Autoexpress”. We do not get this Mag here we get the “Autobild” which is supposely a sister publication, but I never saw this news. Now whether this is fact or “Fake News” I cannot confirm but never the less interesting - Dave 🧐

It has been mentioned widely recently that the new 2021 Nissan QQ will more than likely have an e-Power Unit. I have found a report which mentions that instead of the 1,2L Motor used in the Nissan Note / Serena / Kicks at present, there is a 1,5 L Turbocharged Petrol Unit being Developed in China called the “KH5T”. It appears that the Development work is being carried out by a Chinese Co. called Zhenjiang Deni Vehicle Parts Co. a Chinese Parts Supplier owned by the Dongfeng Motor Co. and Nissan and it is a Major Supplier of Nissan Vehicles in China. I cannot read Chinese so the information was really of no use.

Company : Zhanjiang Deni Vehicle Parts has two wholly-owned subsidiaries and three manufacturing bases, including Zhanjiang Deni headquarters factory, Dongfeng (Shiyan) Nonferrous Castings Co., Ltd., and Guangzhou Deni Automobile Parts Co., Ltd. The company has 2,500 employees and an annual output value of 1.2 billion yuan ($191 million) . Its main products include automobile parts, motorcycles, and fuel supply systems for small gasoline engines.
Dongfeng Motor Company Limited is an automobile manufacturing company headquartered in Wuhan, China. It is a 50–50 joint-venture between Dongfeng Motor Group and Nissan Motors. It produces passenger cars under the Nissan marque and commercial vehicles under the Dongfeng marque.

“Now whether this will ever take place is a good question but using this 1.5-litre T/C petrol engine would mean far more power and torque than what the current e-Power 1,2L HR12DE petrol engine produces. The 2021 Nissan Qashqai (2022 Nissan Rogue Sport) should be a contender for the all-new series hybrid powertrain with an impressive system output. The e-Power technology uses an internal combustion engine as a generator. The ICE feeds a small battery that in turn powers an electric motor responsible for driving the wheels. Nissan says that e-Power delivers massive torque almost instantly, operates very quietly, and consumes fuel comparable to a parallel hybrid electric powertrain. The company also offers the benefit of its proprietary e-Pedal single-pedal driving feature in e-Power vehicles.”

Could the 2021 Nissan Qashqai e-Power use this 1.5T petrol engine? :

Gloucester, Thanks for that article !. It does therefore appear that the facts came from this Chinese Site new.qq.com & Electric Vehicle Web - Dave 😉

There is of course a BIG difference in terms of driving experience between a hybrid assisting a petrol engine to drive and a hybrid petrol engine purely driving the motor.

Mike, it appears that the new QQ is not an Hybrid it is an e-Power Drive which is Electric Drive with a back up Petrol Engine charging it, it is not like the Toyota Setup. The New 2021 Ariya is supposedly going to be the Hybrid - Dave 😉

Sorry - corrections:

1. Both "ordinary" hybrids and "e-Power" are defined as hybrids.

2. The Ariya is NOT a hybrid - it's pure ELECTRIC!

e.g.

Your own quote:

“In a nutshell, e-Power technology uses an internal combustion engine as a generator. The ICE feeds a small battery that in turn powers an electric motor responsible for driving the wheels. Unlike a parallel hybrid electric vehicle, say a Toyota Camry Hybrid, for instance, a series hybrid electric vehicle offers a full EV driving experience.”

Autoexpress:

"Nissan’s all-new Qashqai – due to be unveiled later this year – will be offered with Nissan’s e-Power hybrid system, Auto Express can confirm.

Speaking to Auto Express at the unveiling of the new all-electric Ariya, Nissan COO Ashwani Gupta said, “Qashqai will come to Europe with e-Power – it’s one our core technologies."

Also note that the technology is nothing new - the Vauxhall Ampera employed the same system:

https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/va ... -2012-2015

At its launch in spring 2012, the Vauxhall Ampera was the first plug-in hybrid passenger car to be offered for sale in the UK.

It is powered by General Motors’ ‘Voltec’ series-hybrid propulsion technology (like its Chevrolet Volt sister model) and it marked a new and, arguably, more practical approach to the electric car. Indeed, the Ampera was made the 2012 European Car of the Year.

Unlike conventional hybrids, which can be best described as combustion-engined cars backed up by electric assistance, the Vauxhall Ampera is primarily powered by electric motors but has a four-cylinder combustion engine and generator to keep the car running when the batteries are exhausted.

Gloucester, Thanks for the Comments ! - Dave

Correct the Nissan Ariya is an EV : Nissan Comment - Coming in late 2021, a new electric crossover from Nissan. It's the purest expression of Nissan Intelligent Mobility. A force to unlock the power within. You. Me. All of us. Moving beyond with capability, precision and style.

There are Comments on the Hybrid ** I think what I was trying to say was it is not a conventional Hybrid as it is electric driven.
QQ : Nissan Comment - The e-POWER system offers full electric motor drive, meaning that the wheels are completely driven by the electric motor. e-POWER is comprised of a high-output battery and the powertrain which is integrated with gasoline engine, power generator, inverter and a motor.
** In conventional hybrid systems, the wheels are driven by an electric motor and a gasoline engine. However, in the e-POWER system, the gasoline engine is not connected to the wheels; it simply charges the battery. And unlike a full EV, the power source is the engine, rather than just the battery.
