After
travelling around here in the US in various cars I have noticed that there are one hell of a lot of technology extras available
to car buyers basically very similar to our EU QQ Tekna even the Infiniti Models
are being advertised on TV with the Tekna options. Today I found a topic on the
German News as follows, so just put some info`together for interest a€“ Dave :

Under
the EC Directive 207/46/EC which concerns Category M : Motor
vehicles with at least four wheels designed and constructed for the carriage of
passengers.

Category M1 (QQ related) : Vehicles
designed and constructed for the carriage of passengers and comprising no more
than eight seats in addition to the driver's seat.

All new Category M1 vehicles
receiving EC type-approval after 1st
November 2014

will be required to be fitted
with for example :

Electronic Stability Control
Systems (ESC), Advanced Emergency
Braking

Systems (AEBS) and Lane Departure Warning Systems (LDW).

These have been identified as technologies
which have a high potential to considerably reduce road casualties. In
addition, Gear Shift Indicators (GSI) have been identified as a technology with
a high potential to increase fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions.http://www.dft.gov.uk/vca/vehicletype/d ... 20Note.pdf

If I read it correctly, it is Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Gear Shift Indicators (GSI) mandatory for M1 / N1 vehicles while Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Advanced Emergency Braking Systems (AEBS) becomes mandatory for M2 / N2 and M3 / N3 vehicles. Or have I misunderstood everything

Never understood the workings of Lane departure, I accept it works but it will require all roads to have lane markings and in the UK the roads are not the best in the world anymore

Im not going to belittle a safety feature, im sure many lives have been saved etc etcBut do those in charge of EU realy think a bleep will stop a driver drifting out of hes lane?Or a flashing icon would make a driver change gear?Am I just old and grumpy or is others getting fed up with cab intrusions and these drivers aids?Years ago it was wife / mother in laws job to do the nagging

Today a 'beeb' perhaps but tomorrow it will be for real of course and the car really will drive itself. I totally accept Donkey's point that the roads need a bit of TLC but just as long as we stay in the EU I suspect there will be a directive to cover that too. I can only assume that not too many of you have been to Germany? Over there when they say 'Keep off the Grass" they mean it, all the tress have names and a potted history of why they are there. The cream teas are to die for, especially on a Sunday morning - after church of course!

Tekna CVT 1.6 Magnetic Red - born 4/4/14 P/X 25/10/2015 for £19k with 12,000 on the clock - great car but time to change. No problems whatsoever in those 18 month's.
