Hi saw this on Facebook what a rip off will have to check next time I fill up Ok so I'm not normally one to share things like this but...were all being scammed on our petrol! I was at a garage today (16/11/14) in Cambridge...a BP garage o...n Huntingdon road, Girton, Cambridgeshire. Now I heard about garages starting to clock the pumps to charge you more than advertised so I started putting the test to the theory and low and behold...they were right! Charging me more for my fuel...Bast**ds! Now I can't believe I never actually checked this before! As you can see, 1 Litre should cost 123.9 pence, when I put exactly 1 Litre in it came to 125pence! Now 1.1pence per litre is nothing extra out of my pocket im going to miss really but imagine how much money they will accumulate and many people this garage is scamming! When I went in to speak to the foreign garage sales person, I started explaining what had happened. He was quick to decline my statement. Then I showed him the picture I just took...he suddenly forgot how to speak english and said I he didn't understand and just shrugged his shoulders and smiled. Pathetic scamming bast**d. 1 pence per litre - per full tank - per 100's of cars a day - per 1000's a month! Illegally taking 1000's of pounds out of innocent people's pockets for a product deemed as a necessity, when money is tight enough as it is! This needs to be shared, liked and passed on to as many people as possible. So next time your at your friendly local garage filing up, check how much your REALLY paying for a litre!

If you feel you have been robbed contact Trading Standards with a copy of your photo, they should be able to carry out checks. Also contact BP, they won't want any bad press. How much was 10 litres? Was it £12.39 or £12.50. That would be a better test.Only time I buy small amounts is for the lawn mower.

If you do the maths of £1.25 divided by £1.239 per litre you will see that the pump has actually delivered 1.0088781 litres, so hasn't yet rolled over to 1.01 litres. These things are regulated.

Petrol pumps regularly checked by Trading Standards, as others say; you may see them on forecourt from time to time, with a pump closed off, and using old fashioned containers for accurate measure of what's being dispensed. Have tweeted your pic to BP however.

Think what Steve is trying to say is OP (on Facebook) has possibly put 1.0088781 litres in, not the 1.00 litre they think because the pump has not yet rolled over to 1.01 litres ?Unless of course the OP (on Facebook) dispensed the fuel into a calibrated container and not the car ;)

Ah, a Facebook user. Does anyone know the average IQ of such a sharer of a trivial life?

This answer is spot on, there is no way you could dispense exactly 1 litre of fuel and be sure it is accurate. No garage would risk trying to make the odd 1p per litre as the fine or possible closure from regulators would be too serious a risk to be worth it.Facebook crap strikes again, sadly most users of this are either, school boys/girls, troublemakers or people with an IQ of less than 20
