Anything to do with corn is highly entangled with the government and lobbyists. Their politics isn't about whats best for the country or the environment it's about who paid them the most to make a decision that benefits the person paying them.
They have patents on seeds to stop farmers regrowing them, it's crazy. There are also links to cancer and other nasties because of the chemicals and tweaking they've done to the seeds/plants. Scary stuff, yet all legal thanks to the vast amounts of 'investing' the companies have done for/to the government.

Volkswagen has agreed to set aside at least $10 billion to resolve civil claims by the U.S. government and lawsuits by American car owners over diesel vehicles rigged to cheat pollution controls, almost 600,000 vehicles are involved. This includes an offer of compensation and buying back some cars.

German carmaker Daimler has opened an internal investigation into the way it certifies diesel exhaust emissions in the US and is conducting probes at the request from the US Justice Department. US owners of Daimler's Mercedes-Benz BlueTEC diesels filed a class-action lawsuit claiming the cars are programmed in a way that lets them emit illegal levels of emissions, similar to diesels made by fellow German carmaker Volkswagen.

This week Japan's Mitsubishi Motors admitted rigging data on some of its models' fuel efficiency. This is the one that includes Nissan Japanese Models.
France's Peugeot has also been raided by anti-fraud officials as part of ongoing investigations on pollutants in the car industry.

It has just been announced that the VW Workers 120,000 of them will be getting a Premium (Bonus) of €3950 this year compared with last year's €5900 which is around a 1/3 less. The total concerned is €474 Mio, but even the High Flyers will also take cuts - Dave

Diesel engines are set to lose their dominance in Europe as Volkswagen AG’s emissions cheating raises doubts about the technology’s advantages.
Demand for diesel cars is likely to plunge to some 30 percent of the region’s total auto sales by 2020 from about half currently, hampering manufacturers’ profit growth while speeding up a push to develop battery-powered models - Dave

This arose here yesterday in the Press in that European Customer Protection Authorities are putting pressure on VW which could be the end of VW if they have to compensate European Customers, this could be grim for them but I suppose it was to be expected. It apparently cost VW $22 Billion for 600,000 vehicles and the estimate for Europe is $300 Billion for 8,5 Million vehicles - Dave

What a load of baloney. Seed has been patented for at least a century and farm saved seen has been subject to royalty payments since the 1960's that I can remember. Yes, some seed will grow plants that will not reproduce, but that has also been the case since I can remember. Growers have a choice as to what seed they use and can use less productive or more cost effective seeds as they see fit. There's a massive choice.Danny wrote: ↑Fri Mar 11, 2016 6:21 am Anything to do with corn is highly entangled with the government and lobbyists. Your scare stories are naive bullcrap. However I'm all for banning all of it and seeing you try and source cake to fill your belly and then see if you spot the same bullcrap. Have a nice day.
