Isn't it just easier to take out the 'cheat software'?

gymdaddy, it does not appear that simple does it !. They mention that the 2,0L Engine will only require a Software change / the EA189 1,6L Engine requires the "Flow Transformer" and the 1,2L 3 Cyl Engine change will be confirmed end of Nov but could possibly be the same Software change as the 2,0L Engine - Dave ;)

This is the "Flow Transformer" for the 1,6L Motor. The estimated cost per product from an Auto Supplier here was 60 to 80 cents to VW which is pretty cheap - Dave ;)

Is this really on in the UK ?

Quite possibly. I have been waiting to see who would be first of the rest to be caught up in the aftermath of the VW scandal. If anything is found at Renault it seems likely Nissan would also become involved. However, it's important to remember that nothing has been alleged against either company let alone charges brought and Renault are clear that there engines are compliant. Watch this space I guess.

...and whatever happens the car you're driving will stay the same as it is now (apart from a bit of a re-alignment in depreciation but if that happens across the board then we're all in the same boat).

It looks like the VW Emission Scandal is beginning to Bite the Dust as Bosch now appear to be Passing the Buck fully onto VW – Dave ;)

Quote : Volkswagen AG bears the responsibility for its emissions-cheating scandal and not suppliers or diesel technology, according to the head of Robert Bosch GmbH, the world’s biggest maker of auto parts. State-of-the-art technology means diesel-powered cars are now “air-cleaning machines,” as their emissions are less dirty than the air they take in. “Diesel is a clean, environmentally friendly technology,” Engines running on the fuel generate about 20 percent less carbon dioxide than gasoline motors, and other emissions are on a similar level as long as particle filters and selective catalytic reduction systems, which neutralize smog-inducing nitrogen oxides, are installed.

This subject of Emissions especially in the US seems to be a little confusing when you think of the Alarms raised with VW and then this subject of Ethanol arises in the State of Iowa - Dave :?

Cheating VWs Are Cleaner Than Ethanol : The corn-ethanol mandates, which are always a pivotal issue in the State of Iowa, are more deadly than the emissions from those cheating Volkswagens. Four times more deadly, to be precise. Trump is a supporter of this and Ted Cruz was, but is now a don’t know candidate and who won the Iowa Vote surprisingly Cruz 28% / Trump 24%.

By now, most Americans are probably aware that Volkswagen AG, the world’s second-largest automaker, is facing legal problems both in the U.S. and abroad for installing software on its cars that allowed the vehicles to defeat emissions-control tests. Two weeks ago, the Justice Department filed a lawsuit against the German company for violating the Clean Air Act by outfitting more than half a million cars with the software. In the U.S. alone, VW could face fines of as much as $90 billion. If the federal government is going to fine Volkswagen billions of dollars for knowingly increasing air pollution, it should take similar action against the corn ethanol industry.
The vehicles in question produced 10 to 40 times more nitrogen oxides than the law allowed. Ethanol-blended fuel also increases “emissions of hydrocarbons, nitrogen oxides, particulate matter and other pollutants, therfore the corn ethanol mandates are more than four times as deadly to the American public as the VWs.

It looks like VW are beginning to feel the pressure on their self imposed problem - Dave :o

Volkswagen's US chief leaves troubled German carmaker. Volkswagen's top executive in the US is stepping down nearly six months after the German carmaker became engulfed in the diesel emissions scandal. Michael Horn, president and chief executive officer of Volkswagen (VW) of America since 2014, is leaving "through mutual agreement", the company said.

This makes interesting reading from a US VW Customer.

Hey, VW! I've Got Some Ideas For That Car You Sold Me :

Last month, a U.S. District Court judge ordered Volkswagen to come up with a plan by March 24 for fixing the roughly 600,000 diesel vehicles it sold in the U.S. with rigged emissions-testing software. As one of the not so proud VW diesel owners waiting to see what happens, I'm taking the liberty of offering Volkswagen CEO Matthias Mueller a little free advice.
