The real worry is pre Euro6 engines, both petrol and diesel as both emit higher volumes of NOx than current guidelines recommend.
If 'real world' emissions were taken into account, you'd most likely find that all vehicles emitted excessive NOx, so its unfair to single out diesels. There are also some new petrol versions that emit higher concentrations of NOx than diesels of the same model.
We cant get away from the fact that polution is harmful, but banning certain vehicles from certain areas is not the way forward. More time and effort should be spent on producing aftermarket products that can be added to vehicles to make them cleaner.

Gvmdaddy, did you take a look at the comments on the Twintec System, what did you think ?.
I totally agree with your comments and the more you delve in the worst it gets. VW have said they will install the SCR Catalytic Converter System in June on their "Petrol" 1,4L TSi Turbo Tiguan & 2,0L TFSi Turbo A5 and then follow with the rest later. BMW have also mentioned from June regarding Particle Filters & Mercedes is going to follow on. Then there is the decision from Volvo to stop developing Diesel Engines and to let the current Diesels run until 2023.
So it does look like some actions are at last being instigated for the better, time will tell - Dave ;)

I found this to be an interesting comment regarding NOX Emmiters in London in that Diesels were rated at 11% / Petrol 7% and Gas Central Heating at 16% - Dave ;)

This article is not London related !. I have just been down South and visited Munich, Germany a couple of days ago and the amount of traffic, the jams, tunnels etc were horrendous. I read an article in a German newspaper yesterday there and basically it was as attached. The plan is to Ban Euro 6 vehicles in Sept. and allow only the new Euro 6c in the City - Dave ;)

I saw this Information on the modification of London Buses last night on German TV and one of the mentioned suppliers was "Baumont Twintec" which has been mentioned before on the diesel conversion subject - take a read Dave ;)

Sadiq Khan, mayor of London, is on a mission to improve the capital’s air quality: he has called for bus operators to cut nitroden oxide (NOx) and particulate emissions. The aim is to cut harmful pollutants from some 5,000 buses by up to 95% and bring the capital’s entire fleet to at least Euro VI levels by September 2020. This exercise will cost an average of £17,000-plus per vehicle (mentioned was that a new Bus costed €350,000) with the work carried out for the most part in operators’ garages.
Five approved suppliers of retrofit exhaust systems have been appointed by TfL after a competitive tender process – Eminox is one of them alongside Amminex, Baumot Twintec, HJS and Proventia.

Registrations of new diesels have been hammered by increased taxes as well as the introduction of the T-Charge in Central London, parking surcharges in big cities and the threat of new low emissions zones across the country that would force owners to pay more to use their cars. Carbon dioxide emissions in the UK have risen for the first time in 14 years, new figures show - and experts say it's because more people are buying petrol cars as they turn their backs on diesel - Dave ;)

Reading this article it seems that we should be using diesel vehicles to save the planet but petrol ones to save a few thousand lives! That’s in its simplest form, but life ain’t simple is it! This will run and run for a lot longer yet.

I've just been reading about plans to ban diesel, older hybrid and petrol vehicles in east London at certain times of the day which may come into effect by March. I hope this idea doesn't prove too popular as a £130 fine is sure to appeal to other councils!
