Obviously drivers from abroad have no legal requirement to pass a UK competency test thanks to EU diktats; no doubt giving way not a common practice where he comes from.
I recall in France there was (is?) a rule that traffic has to give way to vehicles entering carriageway from right, even if you're on the main road!

Gel, there are similiar regulations over here but not normally on major roads. On the smaller roads normally with no buses there is the "Rechts für Links" law (Right for Left) and when there is no sign you have to give way, if the sign #306 (yellow sign) is there you have the Priority. I had one hell of a problem nearly every day when I came out here in 90 with a MG Metro Turbo Right Hander as I would just drive on past the turn and then the Hand Signs were given and the Horns sounded which is a very costly Fine here - Dave
