Nissan Plans to Introduce Fully Autonomous Driving Cars in 2022 - Dave :)

Nissan Motor Co. says it’s aiming to introduce fully autonomous cars to the market in 2022, as the Japanese carmaker strives to establish itself as a front-runner in driverless technologies.
The carmaker plans to add autonomous-driving functions step-by-step, first allowing more cars to handle single-lane driving by themselves, and subsequently navigate urban roads, including intersections, by 2020. Nissan is racing with new entrants to the auto industry such as Google’s Waymo and Tesla Inc as well as bigger rivals including General Motors Co. to develop fully-autonomous driving cars. Waymo has a clear advantage over auto manufacturers and other tech competitors based on the number of autonomous miles driven, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance.
In Japan, Nissan models including the Serena minivan, the X-Trail SUV and the new Leaf electric car are gaining popularity because of their semi-autonomous features including single-lane driving and auto parking.

Britain's motorists are the most resistant to the emergence of the autonomous car - driverless car in Europe. Less than a third of UK motorists welcomed the arrival of self-driving cars a survey conducted across 11 major European nations has found - Dave :)

There is a reason why people are resistant to driverless cars / vehicles. In face there are a few.

Firstly the ethical choice in a crash. Does the car kill a number of its occupants, or the single pedestrian minding their own business? How does that choice get made?

Secondly, although part of the first question I suppose, who's responsible? We have insurance to protect against damage to our vehicle if we are responsible, or someone else's if theirs is damaged in an accident.

Additionally, we're all keen on the idea of the car driving us home after a few at the pub to save our licenses. But isn't there supposed to still be a human in the loop to monitor the cars performance and decision making ability. A drunk person hardly fits the bill, so who's responsible then?

But thirdly, how is a mix of driverless and driven cars supposed to work? Not everyone will be able to afford one, or want one. Driverless cars can communicate and make decisions based on their software and the given set of circumstances. But what about a non-driverless driver who is not paying attention, or drunk, or the boy racer who darts through traffic and out of that side road at the last minute, or the emergency vehicle that has come screaming up behind?

There are too many variables involved in the real world for artificial intelligence to comprehend and react too with any reasonable amount of confidence or success. That's why people are resistant to driverless vehicles.

Try this, it's puts you in charge of the decision making process of an autonomous vehicle...

Interesting Comments and attachment. This subject is getting larger on a daily Basis with manufacturers all fighting for a Piece of the pie and naturally there are the "Fors" & "Against". Here is some more stuff from the CES which might be of interest - Dave :)

Renault, which projects it’ll sell cars with fully autonomous features by 2022 with its Japanese partners Nissan Motor Co. and Mitsubishi Motors Corp., is among manufacturers catching up to Silicon Valley on building self-driving vehicles -- who’re currently vying for a place in the spotlight during this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

I think the technology created from making these automous cars, is useful. the concept itself to me seems, frivolous. However, they are selling, people are buying, how much the autonomous portion of the car plays a part is questionable. I'm glad that supercar manufacturers are not keen on implementing it into their cars as that would be an absolute train wreck. You already get enough crashes from supercars, because people can't handle the power. this article here with the CEO of Lamborghini  is interesting https://www.wired.com/story/lamborghin ... f-driving/
Essentially using the tech from autonomous driving to make the cars safer to drive, or make driving tests more thorough(thats another topic entirely). I mean I usually rent a supercar for the odd weekend from https://www.super-car-hire.co.uk/supercars/With the horsepower varying from 400 odd to 600ish, and I've had similar convos with the people over there about autonomous driving.

Here are some interesting results from an AA Test regarding Autonomous Cars - just some information Dave 😉

Quote: “The majority of motorists want autonomous cars to safeguard the lives of children ahead of all other road users if a crash is imminent, a new survey shows. However, not all drivers polled by the AA agreed.”
