There was an interesting comment that appeared yesterday here regarding the Vehicle or Type Approval of Vehicles. This statement came from the KBA (Federal Motor Transport Authority). Apparently the 1st vehicles to be converted here were the VW Amarok Pickups in Jan 2016. Now it is being stated that these vehicles as initially produced by VW do not meet the required Vehical Type Approval Specs and if the new "Software" has not been installed they must be taken off the road or laid up. The problem that is now apparent is that if the new Software has been installed, then there is no evidence when the Customer goes through the Lawyer / Court so Customers are not so keen on having the Software done. Things are getting deeper and more complicated for Diesel Owners

According to an article in The Times, electric cars cost 50% more to insure. Hopefully that will change well before 2040!

Sandgrounder, you might well find this interesting regarding Charging from Lampposts. This developement is from a Startup Co. in Berlin called Ubitricity and there is an article this week in Autobild here of a Tesla Owner using a Lamppost in Westminster - Dave
This article is a little old June 17 : http://www.independent.co.uk/environmen ... 09126.html

Thanks for the info, Dave.
It'll be interesting to see if all the councils in the U.K. adopt similar schemes. I assume payment for the electric will be operated on a Pay-As-You-Go basis? Some of the comments make interesting reading, especially about potential trip hazards/claims.
The only EV charge point I've seen is one at my Nissan Dealer for the Leaf, some 20 miles away. I'll keep my eyes peeled for any popping up in town!

I find it rather frustrating that lots of these articles that are now surfacing use the headline 'diesel' when in reality it's primarily older diesels that are to be banned. It's worth remembering that the QQ J11 diesels are not particularly high polluters, indeed if we extend the issue to include NOx emissions then some of the diesel variants actually emit less than their petrol siblings. All this will become irrelevant when all petrol and diesel vehicles are truly banned from the roads in just over 20 years time.DaveBerlin wrote: ↑Fri Jul 28, 2017 7:21 pm Here is the decision from the Court today regarding the Banning of Diesels in Stuttgart for starters - Dave

I think the headlines are all wrong. I read diesels are not getting banned, its the manufacture of diesel cars that has to stop, not the use of. I do agree though that its the older cars that need to be removed off the roads as soon as possible.
