I look forward to the day when the car manufacturer always owns the car & we just lease/hire off them. Apparently, studies have shown there will be far fewer items going into landfill & much more recycling.
I'm firmly of the belief that when cars become fully autonomous, no one will actually own a car at all. You'll just summon one like a taxi. Why would you want/need to own one 24 hours a day and only use it 1 hour? You'll just say to Alexa, Google, Siri "Please arrange a car for 9.15am" and it will arrive in your drive at that time... Except of course you won't really need a drive either!!!

EDIT - do YOU say "please" to your phone?

Toyota Burniston 14 JAN 2019 - Toyota’s Derbyshire factory officially starts production on new Corolla

https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/b ... ts-2425496

Barely mentioned during the X-Trail slag off by the usual BBC/Fake news suspects.

Sir John Redwood today: (its a sane voice in the current Brexit babble)
"The UK economy has held up well at a time of negative growth in Italy and Germany and slowdown in France. This has happened against a background of UK policies that have led to a large reduction in new car sales, and a slowdown in housing transactions. Buy to let investment by individuals has been reduced substantially by tax rises, and new car sales hit by policies against diesels along with higher VED particularly for dearer cars"

I voted for a Common Market back then having lived in Europe for 7 years.. I liked what I saw and the UK was dying on its feet then. I had a hope!

£21,300 is quite a high starting price for a car of this size when you consider that the Qashqai starts at £19,995 (for a trim level hardly anyone buys!). That's for the 1.2 petrol - the 1.8 Hybrid is from £23,750.00. The base cost of the top trim level with the 2.0 hybrid engine is a steep £29,070!

Interestingly the 2.0l engine is in a much higher state of tune: 1.8 Petrol Hybrid (122 hp) compared to 2.0 Petrol Hybrid (180 hp)

Paint is steep too - if you don't want white there's an extra £545, £765, £795, or £1015.

A couple of weeks back Daewar & Gloucester mentioned basically to me similiar comments to this attachment - Dave 🙂

Daewar : “Don't be sad, rejoice in the fact that we as humans are taking fewer resources from the planet. For too long have cars been non-upgradeable, but another item in our throw away society. I look forward to the day when the car manufacturer always owns the car & we just lease/hire off them. Apparently, studies have shown there will be far fewer items going into landfill & much more recycling”.

Gloucester : “I'm firmly of the belief that when cars become fully autonomous, no one will actually own a car at all. You'll just summon one like a taxi. Why would you want/need to own one 24 hours a day and only use it 1 hour? You'll just say to Alexa, Google, Siri "Please arrange a car for 9.15am" and it will arrive in your drive at that time... It just ain’t getting any better for the UK Production and their Workers. Jaguar Land Rover sale is 'inevitable' and the firm is in a 'death spiral' - Dave ☹️

The company, which employs 40,000 people in the UK, racked up losses of £3.4billion between October and December, according to leaked documents. The luxury car maker, which is owned by Indian firm Tata, is said to be in talks with Peugeot and Citroen owner Groupe PSA about a possible takeover. In January, JLR – which also makes the Range Rover – confirmed it would axe 4,500 jobs, with most coming from its UK workforce, on top of another 1,500 job cuts announced last year.
The following month, JLR posted the biggest quarterly loss in Indian corporate history – amounting to £3.4billion in the final three months of 2018 – as sales plunged in China.

Just caught up on this thread, smily smily :D Lots of links to the BBC who we all know get pots of money from the EU https://www.telegraph.co.uk/politics/20 ... u-funding/) so sorry I'll take any links to them with a big pinch of salt. Another link that Ford warning no deal Brexit would be disastrous, Ford have not made a car in the UK for a long long time, 2002, and only make petrol engines(1.6l eco boost) in Bridgend, Diesel engines in Dagenham and has a research in Dunton Essex. And yet they are the biggest UK suppliers of cars. They are worried because of a no deal EU with the UK, does make me smile though.
Past cars Mercedes B Class, S Class, E Class Estate, E Class Coupe, G Wagen, 260E interspersed with Peugeot 406 and Audi Coupe.
