The point is the person caught drink driving is punishable, not the car. That is the consequence of the actions, not penalising anyone & everyone connected to the car. It's quite simple really

In that case, they should leave the car alone and the person caught drink driving is beheaded....sorted, and takes another jerk out of the equation!

This to me is another Life & Death situation, this is also a daily occurrence, people playing with their mobiles and having no idea what is going on around them. Do not get me wrong they are a great tool when needed and used correctly, what did we do before they appeared on the market - Dave

Police detectors to warn mobile phone-using drivers. Two police forces will use detectors in a bid to deter drivers using mobile phones at the wheel. Watch out Thames Valley & Hampshire but luckily just a warning at present and detection of wether the driver or passenger is using one cannot be determined, but a step in the right direction - Dave

The system comprises a sensor capable of detecting vehicles where there are active 2G, 3G and 4G phone signals, and an LED warning sign located a short distance along the road. As long as the activation meets certain pre-determined parameters, the sensor will pick up that a driver is using a phone for calling, text or data purposes and will activate the warning sign. This shows an illuminated mobile phone icon within a bright red circle and diagonal red line.

This week there has been reports on the advances being made by the Police to catch Handy Users. Here the Police have converted Delivery Vans / Mobile Homes and use them to film Drivers whilst driving alongside Trucks and also there are as always the Spot Check Mobile Setups. In Holland the Police are using Buses in the Cities and now Australia have gone one step further - Dave

Cameras designed to catch drivers using their mobile phones will be rolled out by the end of the year. The announcement by Transport for New South Wales comes after a six-month pilot program between January and June in which 100,000 drivers were busted using their phones while driving.
