The level of car security you should expect based on vehicle price
Up to £20,000

Expected to have fundamental security features, but not some of the extra layers found on higher-priced vehicles. Typically, a vehicle within this value range would include a Thatcham Research certified immobiliser, perimeter alarm, double-locking to all doors, locking wheel bolts and attack-resistant mechanical security.

£20,000 - £35,000

Expected to have high standard security features, but not some of the extra layers found on higher-priced vehicles. Typically, a vehicle within this value range should include the security from the Up to £20k range plus a Thatcham Research certified alarm system.

£35,000+

The security should be to the very highest standard. Typically, a vehicle within this value range would include the security from the £20k to £35k range plus Thatcham Research certified alarm system with tilt sensor and a Thatcham Research tracking system.

How does any of this stop a relay theft ??

Hi Noddy, all your comments are from the attachments from Thatcham. Here in Germany our QQ which I suppose is in “Class 2” does not even have an Alarm System Installed Nissan Comment was it is a “Country Standard”. Still keeping my eyes open and it appears that still the only System here which seems to get mentioned is the Bundpol SecuKey System (not an employee but keep my eyes open). I spoke to them regarding Outlets in the UK but there are none and have also asked our Dealer for an assessment. When you are purchasing Big Money Cars (BMW / Mercedes etc) & often Paying extra for Systems and they still get Stolen then where does it end - Dave 😉

Why don't new cars come with keyless theft warning ? - Dave ☹️
https://mol.im/a/6861343

I actually gave all the facts to our Dealer Owner a year Back suggesting what is stated here - but no action !
Quote : “Secondly, why – when forking out thousands of pounds for a new car with the technology – wouldn't a signal blocking pouch now just come a standard? They are inexpensive and can even be offered as an optional extra. It strips out the element of drivers not bothering to snap one up before the worst happens. They cost as little as a fiver online. I'm sure that a cunning dealer could get their car maker's brand stamped on them and sell them for a multiple of that”.

Ford tackles keyless car theft with new ‘sleeping’ key fob

Information from What Car? https://www.whatcar.com/news/ford-tackl ... fob/n19213
To tackle this threat, Ford's new key fobs contain a motion sensor. If this detects the key hasn't been moved for more than 40 seconds, it puts it into sleep mode. This prevents anyone with a relay box or other specialist equipment from getting its signal.

The key fob wakes up again as soon as it's moved. According to Ford, it will be fully functional by the time the owner has walked to the car. Additionally, the key fobs are programmed to work only within two metres of the car.
New Fiestas are now being delivered with the new key fobs, and the Focus will get them soon. Plus, Ford is offering the upgrade to existing owners of the current Fiesta and Focus, for £65 and £72 respectively.

Sandgrounder - Thanks !. It great to hear at long last a manufacturer is beginning to act but it appears to cost also. It mentions “Home” but does this method overcome the Relay Box Car Park Guys that Copy the Keys and get entry, or have I missed something ? - Dave 😉

“Thieves have been targeting keyless entry cars with relay box equipment that can pick up the signal from the key fob while it's in the owner’s home and use this to open and start the car.
To tackle this threat, Ford's new key fobs contain a motion sensor. If this detects the key hasn't been moved for more than 40 seconds, it puts it into sleep mode. This prevents anyone with a relay box or other specialist equipment from getting its signal.

Should YOU get a device that led police to criminals in minutes ? - just a few more facts Dave 🙂
Expensive but : “The gadgets rely on a global positioning system – GPS – to pinpoint the exact location of a vehicle. But unlike a traditional Satnav device, or a black box that monitors how a vehicle is being driven, the tracker is designed to catch criminals”.

This option seems to be catching on now, cheap and functionable in reason. “Since the theft she has also invested £15 in a 'Faraday' purse to stop signals from her keys being picked up from outside the home to thwart vehicle thieves. These bags have a metal-lined fabric that blocks the signal”.

Car theft payouts 'at seven-year high'. The Association of British Insurers said claims for January to March were higher than for any quarter since 2012. It said a rise in keyless car crime was partly to blame, but did not have figures on what proportion of claims were for keyless vehicles - Dave 🙄

Three ways to reduce the risk of car theft :
Park your car in a well-lit area
Keep car keys well away from external doors or windows
Turn off the signal overnight or keep the keys in a signal-block pouch.

More than half of Scotland's car thefts are unsolved - Dave 🤨
Police said the vehicles were often stolen to order by criminal gangs using technology to bypass entry systems on keyless cars.
Insurers and security experts have expressed concerns about technological vulnerabilities in modern vehicles such as the keyless car entry systems. Police Scotland said it was working closely with the industry to stay on top of technological advances and said cars were mainly stolen for onward sale, short-term use in other crimes or for breaking down and selling on parts.

I have been trying a few tin cans to store the QQ I-Key, but they leak sufficient energy to allow the car to be opened....very easily and at distance. I was looking for a reliable can that blocks the RF energy right up to the car if poss. Found one:

Most tins are the lap over lid type as in old tobacco tins etc. They leak if not soldered shut...useless idea.

I do remember some cans that had a lid that was tapered inboard so that it slots into the tin can mouth. As pic, with the lid on, it blocks the key signal totally and right up to the driver door handle. I bought it at Sainsburys about 4 years back. Contained chocolate cookies but I was to store electronic bits in it. About £3.50 I think?

The lid lip/neck is about 20mm wide, Also note that the can is side seamed which may have been a leak if not soldered. Its sealed anyway because with the lid off at the car door and upright the energy is totally blocked. Lean the can approx 20 degrees and the car can be opened. Lid on and car cannot be opened at all.

Should say that this prevents I-key being fried in the microwave? And can put battery back into spare key.

Where to get them or similar...dunno. Web reveals nothing from can makers...just the common lip over type.
