Morning all
My son passed his driving test a couple of years ago (he's 25) and his girlfriend (also 25) has just passed hers. Neither has owned a car before, and they want to buy a small, 5 door hatchback (Fiesta, Astra, Polo) etc for about £1500. Neither has much idea what to look for (I've warned them them their annual insurance will probably cost as much as the car), and I've started to have a look on AutoTrader, etc, to see what's available in their price range.
I'm seeing lots of Cat C, Cat D, Cat N and Cat S vehicles for sale through the trade, which seem to offer good value, and whilst I understand these are all repaired insurance write-offs, I'm a little uncertain as to what they all mean. Grateful if anyone can offer any advice. Is a Cat C 'better' than a Cat D, for instance? And what effect (if any) will having a Cat C, D, S or N vehicle have on their insurance costs?
Many thanks in anticipation
