I thought the Halfords ones I got in 2016 were fine but a standard pair are at least £32.

I got my latest ones from https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/351270073727 ... 1270073727 - but they're no longer operating on eBay.

I paid £29.35 for: Shaped rear number plate, standard front plate & comprehensive fixing kit

I had a Kia Sorento one since no one was listing a Qashqai.

Both had "carbon fibre" style lettering (in standard format). The standard front one was fine. The rear one was clearly "hand made" and started delaminating as I put it on. However it survived just over a year, but when I took it off last week I found it was bubbling slightly, mainly on the letters, so I'll have to source a new one for my Ignis (the number's been transferred - and the recess is the same shape!)

EDIT - I made sure that the plates were 100% legal

Only ever bought from Halfords.
Too expensive ?
In my humble opinion you get what you pay for and the quality of plates I've had from Halfords has been excellent.

Just go to your local car spares shop/motor factors and get some made. I'm not sure what you mean by "cheap". They have to conform to the correct BS number. You will need your V5 and licence as id.

It's an attempt to stop plate cloning so not a bad thing really.
