Gel, thanks for bringing this to our attention, it looks like you have found once again a Hot Topic in your post which has been publicized also by the Sun & Telegraph. It appears that more facts need asking or testing from more manufacturers. I found some more manufacturers but nothing on the Nissan Group. :

Perhaps it makes sense now to change the Filter regularly despite the cost !
One significant point is the question of Asthma sufferers of which my wife is, this is why I purchased that small Internal Air Conditioner I posted previously on to help, but I must admit when used it always comes up Green (Clean ?) - Dave

Dave perhaps we have some forum members who have access to The Times who could elaborate.
Nissan only change them at a Major Service as you know; they cost about £9 here.
Nissan charge £45 for this
£40 for the air filter, which is much easier to change being adjacent to battery.
