So it is time for the government to think seriously about supporting a scrappage scheme for diesel car owners. The jobs of thousands of British car workers may ultimately depend on it.

Trying to work the logic there - anyone?

If they scrap diesels everyone will go out a buy a petrol or electric car, that has already been built, more than likely. Hence not saving any jobs.

Top quality logic as usual.

Scrappage schemes are usually for people buying new cars. I suspect few people with 10+ year old cars are going to be going out and buying a new car.

Admittedly my boss did, but he'd been hanging onto his ten year old 150k+ BMW 525 because he really liked it. Prefers the new Golf GTi he now has though. I don't know what he got in VW scrappage (£4,000?) but the BMW was probably worthless...
