Just bought a new WD40 Spray on offer at good old LIDL here, just to keep the stocks up. I am a great believer in this stuff for use in and around the QQ, House, locks, hinges, water valves etc.... But what I found today was interesting and some of the “Tricks” shown were definitely worth noting. So here are a couple of videos to look at if of interest - Dave

I've spent about 50 yrs using WD40 and I think I found its origin in a green 1 gallon can (NATO numbered) of something similar...in the RAF about 1969.
The other end of the WD 40 scale is as below..Ed China on Wheeler Dealers. He often uses WD40 on less energetic projects. Its on his workbench at about 2 mins in:

The thing with wd40 is it’s not a releasing spray like say plusgas which my dad as an aircraft engineer for hawker siddley swore by as do I and I’ve tried wd40 on blurry headlamps and initially looks to do the trick but I believe all it does is fill in the “defects” on the lense giving the appearance of a smooth surface and as soon as it “washes” off ba k to square 1

It's a good for electrical/electronic contacts. I've used it on 1Kv contactors - ermmm...not when live. Early WW2 HF Transmitter inductive tuning responded well in that it much reduced the all too common arcing. Never hung around long enough to work out why?scimitargtc wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 11:09 am The thing with wd40 is it’s not a releasing spray like say plusgas which my dad as an aircraft engineer for hawker siddley swore by as do I and I’ve tried wd40 on blurry headlamps and initially looks to do the trick but I believe all it does is fill in the “defects” on the lense giving the appearance of a smooth surface and as soon as it “washes” off ba k to square 1
I always classed it as a very light lubricant/ grease dissolvent/moisure repellant. It wouldn't penetrate a rusty nut thread in the time I wanted.
Damaged lamp lenses need to be lightly ground down and gradually polished back. WD40...not really.
