It looks like Ford have jumped in or were involved earlier in the planning of the Rivian. GM appear to be out and Ford Motor are to put $500 million into electric vehicle startup Rivian - Dave 😊

It would appear that Rivian have got a nice sum of money to back their E-Project which might cause Tesla some problems. The company has announced that it has closed a new massive round of funding worth $1.3 billion on top of its previous investments. They disclosed that T. Rowe Price Associates, a major Tesla investor, led the round, and Amazon, Ford Motor Company, and funds managed by BlackRock were involved - Dave 😉

Why do manufacturers of electric cars / trucks feel the need to design them with such shockingly ugly front ends, because in my opinion this looks terrible and so do the majority of the others makes.

I do wonder how some of these trucks would cope with pedestrian impact tests.

Not sure if this is the video that's been proclaimed fake on some websites but it's impressive!

It does seem to be a trend that's being mitigated in redesigned - compare the unremittingly ugly Leaf Mk1

... with the much classier Leaf Mk2

If only Tesla would take notice!

Renault is the exception but even here the Mk1 Zoe:

... has been "toughened up" in the Mk2 iteration:

The Rivian is typically pricy too -

The R1T pickup truck will start at $69,000. That cost is before the $7,500 federal tax credit. Rivian is currently taking refundable $1,000 deposits.

And these government grants aren't going to last long once people start buying electric cars in earnest - the UK grant has already been reduced from £5000 to £3500 and I can't see it staying at that figure long.

Weasel, what is mentioned often is that in the US “Big is Beautiful”. If you visit the Car Shows you will see some unbelievable vehicles all street legal / worthy and “who is worried about “Pedestrain Safety” not them, only the Pedestrains. I mean here the Polizei would have a great day with Fines - Dave 🤨

As the Safety issue has been raised quite rightly this is just a general comment from the US :
