This news has just come as a Surprise today as it has been mentioned by Elon Musk in Berlin that a Battery Factory will be built near to the unfinished BER Int. Airport, which incidently is near to where we live about 8 miles. This airport was planned to be opened in 2011 but it could now be 2020 and is a Big embarrassment here 😫 - Dave😉

Well it looks like the “Gigafactory” will be Built by 2021 and will include an Engineering & Design Centre and they will build the Compact SUV Model Y, Batteries, Drive chains etc. the announcement was made at the Motor Presentation Awards called the “Goldener Lenkrads” sponsored by the “Auto Bild” Car Magazine & “Bild am Sonntag” Sunday Paper.

The SUV is based on the existing Tesla Model 3 available here for around €44,000 - Dave 🙂

Colin, Correct and here are a few facts on the Tesla Chinese Plans. Tesla has started electric vehicle production in China ahead of some foreign rivals and its Shanghai factory could push its production costs lower. Success means grabbing a bigger slice of the world's largest car market - Dave 🤫

Tesla is taking a risk by making cars in China despite a Chinese auto industry slump : https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/27/business/tesla-china-auto-industry/index.html

I wonder why so much effort all car makers (except Toyota and Hyundai) devote to a dead end instead of focusing on hydrogen powered cars?

Duncho, the name of the game at present is the E-Auto and when you look at the Companies involved in developement and manufacture it is getting huge, just look at China. Now as you mentioned the developement of Hydrogen cars is not being widely used and BMW are working with Toyota on this. Take a look at the attachments and the comments from the US which are interesting - Dave 😉

USA : “Fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) combine hydrogen stored in a tank with oxygen from the air to produce electricity, with water vapor as the by-product. Unlike more common battery-powered electric vehicles, fuel cell vehicles don’t need to be plugged in, and current models all exceed 300 miles of range on a full tank. They’re filled up with a nozzle almost as quickly as traditional gas and diesel vehicles. While fuel cell vehicles themselves only emit water vapor from their tailpipes.”

Musk calls hydrogen fuel cells 'stupid,' but tech may threaten Tesla : https://www.cnbc.com/2019/02/21/musk-calls-hydrogen-fuel-cells-stupid-but-tech-may-threaten-tesla.html

I think Musk is right Dave. Thats a menace as regards containment and a moving container at that.

Supposedly the Scots have some H busses running in the highlands. Just as well they're way out there. Thats an SNP boast.

Thank you Dave for the link, I will have a look. E-auto won’t be possible to be used in such extent as regular cars and that is due to infrastructure, not only missing chargers, but most importantly city power lines infrastructure, HV routes and transformers and last but not least, power plants. That is MASSIVE investment which no one talks about. I think plan of EU is:
1. Force people to buy e-auto by raising diesel/gasoline cost
2. Later after people gives up driving cars with combustion engine, rise the cost of electricity, to limit number of people using e-cars

In the end, EU already introduced support for public transport, so it is already slowly happening. Car will later be a luxury that no everyone will be able to own.
