IIRC Australia has a fairly "old fashioned" view on EV's.

Correct ! This article might well be worth a read - Dave 😊

“Policy in Australia at both Federal and surprisingly State level remains utterly hopeless despite a growing body of international experience about what works and despite the fact that Australia is an oil importer.”

Let's talk about electric vehicles: Australia's policies are an embarrassment | RenewEconomy : https://reneweconomy.com.au/lets-talk-a ... ent-35863/

Australia certainly does have a distinct energy policy problem. And certain pushy people believe that non dispatchable power is a viable solution. So coal/gas power stations are literally on the back burner. Forcing private diesel engines into domestics. Similar here in UK...build risky energy generation sources and neglect current reliable systems...mix it in boys!

South Aus in point:

It is very political AFAIK. I'd have expected Aus to be well into Nuke by now...but? You know, technical pioneer/leader and so on...Nope :(

Glad I didn't take an interesting job offer there in 1990.

Update:

"Having lost the un-loseable Australian election in May last year, an angry rump of Labor backbenchers is keen to ditch the party’s suicidal renewable energy policies....."

I've been on holiday in Australia three times in the last four years and can't remember seeing a charger anywhere - or any electric cars - though there must have been some.

2018 and our Auto correspondent in Australia (sh8sville). Plenty of solar energy but politically stuffed. This is about cars...not the threat to life stuff.

Excitement Alarm. Smells like the N. Africa solar link round to Europe that the Saudis dumped.
'World's largest solar farm' near tiny NT town could help power Singapore via 4,500km undersea cable.

Anything near useful for EVs appears to be at least 10 years away....a guess
