A few days ago, I had the orange (!) light turn on and the (p) red light started flashing.
Stayed 1 minute then turned off.

Yesterday same happened. Today, I start the car the lights are still there.

See below for a pic:

I did a search and find an old thread with the same problem - but no conclusive answers.

I checked brake fluid. That's OK, seems to be topped up when I opened the lid - but can't tell looking at the side.
See pic below, I thought I'd show just incase:

Any ideas?

Mrmatrix, not sure if this will help, but if you are concerned especially with Braking, Nissan might be worth a visit due to Safety - Dave 🤨

Thanks Dave
It helps a little

But... surely there should be a more clear answer
The P red light flashing must mean something surely?

Thanks Dave.
I started the car again. I released the hand brake. Lights gone.
I started again, problem wouldn't come back.
I'm scratching my head over this.
Really confusing.

Condition of brake pads? Or cable snapped to brake pads…? Just guessing but worth checking…

The Parking Brake System from diagnostics has just one error code (DTC).
C10D7 PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM....PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM [ABNORMAL SIGNAL]

Possible Causes:
Harness or connector
Actuator
Sensor rotor
EHS/PKB control unit
ABS actuator and electric unit (control unit)

Minimal info is on page 70 of this document: https://zinref.ru/avtomobili/Nissan/004 ... _7/001.htm

The DTC won't be picked up on a generic scanner I suspect and does not appear on the web.

Pretty scary causes? The diagnostic procedure related uses Nissan CONSULT tool so anything else is simply guessing.

At a glance of this document I cannot find the PKB Controller so not able to suggest anything. I expect it receives a fair amount of sensor input (e.g speed)/CAN Bus data to work right. Its supposed to Fail Safe on faults...suspect that means its disabled? So be careful...

I some times get the hand brake not disengage automatically on my J11, and I need to manually release the hand brake. There is a thread on here discussing this, unfortunately with no absolute cure for the problem.
Past cars Mercedes B Class, S Class, E Class Estate, E Class Coupe, G Wagen, 260E interspersed with Peugeot 406 and Audi Coupe.

....

Thats a very irritating issue with these cars. Hill Start suffers the same, sharing the ABS control unit which unexpectedly becomes "hesitant". Thats hesitant/slow at unscrewing the motor drive to release the pads....or fast enough?

Its tempting to blame the mechanical element of the ABS system initially. Looking at the schematic below I think its much more than that and since it occurs often enough to be annoying I think the only way to detect the issue is to permanently connect Nissan's CONSULT tool to it...dynamically track it and whats on the CAN BUS primarily. Just imagine the labour cost for that.....

I should of said initial problem = electro/mechanical interface. Its certainly the first place to start.

Also this Nissan schematic does not show the Park Brake unit which is bad......

Guys I feel bamboozled by all the above technical info. 🤔
Not sure what to think.

Breaks are OK.
Cables - couldn't tell.

I'm not sure now if I should be worrying?
The lights have gone.
Nothing to worry about?
