As someone who has always had 2nd or 3rd hand cars before, I've never really cared much about keeping my car looking good, but soon that will all change when my first new car arrives.I pretty much planned to just use the jet wash at my local petrol station but after reading a lot of peoples posts about their cleaning rituals I am getting a bit concerned that my plans will not be up to scratch(poor choice of words). Not looking to spend much money on keeping it clean and to be honest, I rarely have the time to wash it thoroughly either.Anyone have some Protection/Washing advice for someone who's not that bothered about it looking perfect and shiney but wants to protect it and keep it looking decent?

i think the general jist is to use a micro fibre cloth with either a autogleam or similar shampoo ,pat dry with large microfibre cloth then use a dry clean one to run over it and then use autogleam gloss protecter on it Stupot1002014-07-15 17:31:41

I am using a Maguire's micro fibre wash mit (from Halfords) as well as Mag's was and wax stuff.Oddly, I find it much easier to clean the car with the mit than with a sponge! Although be warned, the writs band elastic isn't that great and it can easily fly off your hand if you are not carful! I then use a micro fibre drying towel dabbed rather than dragged across the bodywork. I do have Autoglym wheel cleaner however I have not used it on the Tekna wheels yet. It was bought for the Mrs's Micra which had some stubborn brake dust which would not shift from the wheels! Chances are I will dilute it when I am ready to use it on the QQ's wheels. They both then end up in the washing machine (no products) at a 30c quick (30min) was before being left to air dry!

I just bought a DA polisher so will be getting some serious polishing done when it's next dry...I want to correct some defects in the paint and get that wet look shine.

Hi QQ07 , it doesn't take a lot of time to keep your car clean. I am a big believer in . YOU LOOK AFTER YOUR CAR AND IT WILL LOOK AFTER YOU .It's not hard to do. You let it go and look like crap, your resale value drops below ground level. Peter
