I was quoted £268 by my Nissan dealer who said my 2014 Qashqai needed a recharge (I bought it off then in August last ear), I booked it in to Halfords on line for £49 - however when I took it there this morning they said that unfortunately they can not do it, they can't get the new gas or the equipment only Nissan can do it! I agree Nissan are having a joke as well as a monopoly on the recharge. It is windows open for me now which is a shame as Air Con is a lovely feature in the summer but I refuse to pay Nissan that much.

You are wrong.
Even some dealers aren't equipped yet for charging with the HFO-1234yf refrigerant gas.
Rubbish to say Nissan have monopoly.

Your alternatives is to find independent air con specialists that have invested in the gear to
work with this gas.
Try using a search engine.

Agree with Gel. Its an industry wide issue. For some reason the equipment required is said to be expensive and even Nissan Dealers aren't bothering in investing in the kit. Shop around.

I still think a 2014 car shouldn't need a regas unless a leak has occurred, so I'd rule out a leak first. Otherwise a very expensive refill could just leak out again.

Totally agree with Gel & gvmdaddy, Nissan do not have a Monoploy on this "Re-Gassing" at all. If the EU brings in a New Law and it is agreed that the 2x US Companies DuPont & Honeywell are the Suppliers then who is holding the Gun. This Gas again is expensive and requires new equipment as the Old Gas cannot be mixed and the existing Equipment cannot be used with it. This Gas issue does not only affect Nissan but all new vehicles.
Agree with chrisw99 the vehicle needs checking for leaks or a Faulty Condenser before "Re-Gassing" - Dave :)

I think it is wrong to say that only Nissan can do a regas as I have had a regas from a 3rd party on my 2014 Tekna. The owner of the business to me the system was empty and filled it with 500 grams which was the system capacity. he ran the car for over an hour trying to find the leak but said it was a mystery why the system was empty. The good thing is that I have cold air sine the work was completed back May. He charges by the gram due to the cost of the gas etc. He also told me that manufactures only fill the systems with enough gas to make them work. so this means we are all being short changed. BTW it cost me £180 to fill my Tekna. Shame on Nissan.

In common with others I had a condensor replacement last July, and have covered about 9000 miles since. The aircon has started hissing again during operation over the last couple of weeks suggesting a gas level issue. It is booked in-at the moment, plans may have to change-for investigation at the end of next week (along with the clunking seat base and rattling air vent.....) I asked what the price would be if it was a re-gas and was quoted £180*, but " I've never charged anyone yet as there's always been a fault " that's good and bad news in one sentence. Nice if I won't be out of pocket but hardly inspires confidence in the design and durability of the AC system.

* That's in the Glasgow area, even allowing for labour rates and general overheads in the Southern UK £250 sounds like they are just trying to see what they can get away with.

If anyone is thinking of paying for their re-gas then try Westway Nissan. They quoted me £79 and this includes a decontamination of the system. They have confirmed this is for the new style gas (I had 3 different people confirm it because I didn't believe them !).

I got ripped off for £264 by a local dealer and nearly a month later I am STILL trying to get my money back despite Nissan customer services saying I will get a refund.

Decontamination! I wonder what this could be? Maybe its the anti-bacterial spray inside the car.

Yes it is. He said it was just an air bomb they put in the car to get rid of any bacteria.

He also said they dont make any money doing the re-gas at that price but I cant understand why a garage would do anything that doesnt make them money !!
