Air con recharge cost
I cannot believe the cost of recharging my 2014 Qashqai. I've been quoted £250 as against Halfords £30 for any non Nissan. My daughter recently had her 2014 Vauxhall regassed for that price. Anyone know of any alternatives or is this Nissan having a joke?
I suggest you try an independent garage that has the new system to refill the gas but it it will still be very expensive compared to the old gas system. I was quoted £180 . But a word of warning make sure it's not your condenser that's at fault there are many thread's on this forum about this as it will be a costly exercise if you get it topped up and it leaks out after a week

Nothing at all to do with being a Nissan.
Fault lies with Brussels.
New Gas <HFO-1234yf >usage forced on manufacturer's by EU adherence to climate change; it's very expensive as the aircon specialists who could introduce an element of competition, just do the old gas ; hopefully will change as more & more cars have the new gas filled at manufacture.
It's more prone to £leakage£ too
And it's highly flammable* as a bonus and why Mercedes refused to use, for a long time;
perhaps they have not been able to hold out against Eurocrats, despite being German!

Gel, if you remember I started posting warnings about this R1234yf stuff way back in 2014 before we even got our QQ and I actually raised this point with Nissan. Now at the very least it appears you are also commenting on the dangers which is very positive for Owners. Because a "German" Co. realised that this stuff was dangerous and tried to stick up against the EU I find also positive as they were IMHO trying to protect their Customers. Is the reason that they are "German" I do not think so, this is another EU Regulation which applies to all. At the very least QQ Owners can read up on this subject and there now appears to be more publicity on this.
Just ask your friends or family (with new cars) if they know of this R1234yf problem or saw the Sticker under the Bonnet / Hood or were at the very least informed by their Dealers ! - Dave

As Tom40my said, there has been an issue with air con condensers on the J11 Qashqai - even if your car is just out of warranty, Nissan should do something about it.
Used to have 2015 1.6dCi 130 Xtronic N-tec+ in Gun Metallic
The OP doesn't mention if there is an issue with the aircon, and the fact that his daughters 2014 Vauxhall has just had a regas, makes me wonder if he just fancied getting his done because his daughter had had one done.

I've a 19 year old Toyota with aircon that works like new and has never been touched or regassed. Not even topped up.
Thanks for all your replies. I think the best I can do is see if there's a problem with the system eg a condenser. The problem could be that the previous owner may never have used it which, as we know, is not a good idea as the seals can dry out resulting in a leak. I've checked the Cared For warranty and it doesn't cover a regas unless a component is at fault. If anyone knows of an independent place which has the equipment in Suffolk or North Essex, please let me know.
Thanks again
