CVT - at the stop how is good/correct?

Hello,

I want to know how to put at the stop my CVT, in N (neutral) or to stay in D (drive)?

What is the correct?

Now, I use at the stop, with Auto S/S deactivated in the D position with food on the brake. Should I need to put in N everytime to not overheat CVT transmission or clutch?

I don't find in the manual explication.

Thank you!

When I am standing at lights, etc. I move the stick to neutral. I have always done this in auto cars. I presume it takes the loading off the gearbox. I would be interested in comments from CVT experts.

i have the latest model 1.2 petrol CVT gearbox. In section 5-19 of my owners manual it states "Shift into N (neutral) position and apply the parking brake when at a standstill for longer than a short waiting period". How long is a short waiting period is I do not know but I have always done this whenever I am standing still.

Response by Janson Lancaster accurateautoadvice.com

"To my knowledge, there's no harm in shifting in and out of neutral at stop lights...but I wouldn't recommend it.

First, I don't believe that the strain placed on the transmission while idling at a stoplight is significant, at least not compared to the strain placed on the transmission due to aggressive driving.

Second, if you're in neutral and the light changes unexpectedly, you might force the transmission into drive and hit the gas before the transmission is fully engaged. Revving the engine before the transmission is fully engaged is definitely hard on your transmission, much more damaging than the problem you're trying to avoid.

Thus, I don't see much benefit in the strategy. The gains in reduced strain on the transmission are all lost the first time you pop into drive with the engine RPMs over idle."

So, for me, my CVT will stay in D at the red light stop.

Thank you all for you response.

On mine this is a no issue since the engine is cut off by the start/stop function.
