Hi, I just got the 2017 1.2l petrol auto n-connecta and I've been driving it around town for about a week now on short trips of up to 5 miles. And it really bugs me that the average mpg I'm getting so far shows as 18-19mpg. I was expecting north of 50 when I bought the car, so that is quite shocking to me.
Do I need to do more miles to get a better calculation of the average or should I be worried enough to take it back to the dealership?
Has anyone had such experience?
Extremely low mpg

Welcome to this forum
My petrol manual only managed around 34mpg. You never get near the "official" figures.
Even my Ignis can't get above 50mpg despite allegedly being a lot more frugal.
But sub 20mpg is dire...

I cleared trips 1 & 2 when I got the car.
I've done about 40 miles so far and the average is showing 18.6 mpg. I'm inclined to believe it as the fuel gauge is very close to 3/4 from full.
I know I can't expect the official numbers to be real, but I was getting about 24mpg from my mazda6 (again a petrol auto) with a 2L engine.. surely this puny 1.2L engine can't be worse than that, can it?
I wonder if it could be some sign of an engine issue?
I have a fairly long trip motorway next week so I'll see how it does then.

I usually topped mine up when about 1/4 full.
The lowest fill-to-fill figure I had was 26.2mpg - that was all around town. I also had a 27.1mpg and a 27.8mpg below 30mpg.
Only once did it go over 40mpg - 41.7mpg on a gentle trip to Heathrow.

Around town I generally get high 20's or low 30's mpg in my 1.3 auto.
My absolute best on a recent foggy motorway run is 60mpg (this is the car's computer figure I did 55mph for about 50 miles)
I guess you need to find the time to get out for a long run before trying to find out whether there’s a fault somewhere.

yes, you pipped me there, and I thought I was doing quite well with that score.
