Hello newbie to the forum here. I am wishing to change the rear pads on my Mrs Qashqai, jacked the car, wheels off and elec handbrake off. issue is the brake piston has not retracted back far enough to get the new pads in. Anyone any idea how I get the piston back in the housing? In the past I have changed pads on cars where the piston is rotated back into the housing, is this the same as the end of the piston has 3 notches on the circumference so assume there maybe a special tool to do this. Any info welcomed. Thanks :?:

Welcome, you could try looking through the “Search” Area as there is a vast amount of information that “Might” help you, just try entering “Brake ....” and take a look. Also on YouTube there are various videos - give it a try whilst awaiting an answer Dave :)

At Nissan service they use Nissan Consult with PC to retract that piston and after that they change rear brake pad.

It's possible to use something else like Launch x431 to do the same thing with that piston?

d0Min_uS how much break pads and discs are worn on your CVT equipped car? I have 90k km on the clock and the breaks are still in very good conditions, it seems like they will survive until I will be selling the car :)

You don't need any pc software to pull pistons back. Just take off the brake motor from caliber and turn motor coupling with t40 torx CCW. This will back up mechanism. Now you can use the old-style press to press the piston back in.

Is it not possible just the hold down the Handbrake button when turning of the engine, then the brake is NOT pulled and you can change rear brake with out any issues? and pads.
