Hi all. I need to replace the lower control arm ball joints on my 2012 J10. Do I need to replace the whole arm or can I press out the joints? Read conflicting views on this so far so I want to double check.

Difficult to say unless someone has done it. Would Nissan sell the separate parts would be my question or is there after market parts? Plus its a safety related item. Vid below shows the work...think its Russian:

Yeah that's what's confusing me. They do sell the joints seperately but the Haynes manual I have state that the entire arm needs to be swapped out. Was hoping that someone on here might have come across it themselves at one point or another.

Richiepunx, firstly welcome to the Forum. Just looking around there appears to be a whole variety of individual parts which can be used to replace worn parts. It makes no sense to fit “New” Parts such as Bushings into worn out / oversize holes. It therefore makes sense to double check / measure the hole sizes for wear then comes the problem of disassembly / assembly, you may we’ll need then a press to remove and refit bushings. In the end it is a decision to overhaul (min cost / longer stripdown time) or replace complete (higher cost / minimal time) or a Dealer Job - hope this helps Dave 🙂

Thanks Dave. I'll check the conditions of the arms and probably just go with an entire replacement for peace of mind. I don't have access to a press so I don't want to waste too much time faffing around with the joint.

Your'e dead right there and this is steering and suspension. No guarantee that aftermarket is safe in various ways.

The ball joints can be pressed out and replaced but the arm has to come out for that to happen anyway. I think its more cost/time effective to just replace the whole arm anyway.
