Hi all.
My 19" conti's on the front are on their very last legs now, and have only covered 10000 miles, so pretty disappointed about the short lifespan. Anyway, I have asked Nissan, who say I need to ask the dealer, so I've asked the dealer, but still had no confirmation, and wondered if anyone on here may be able to answer.
To keep the Nissan/dealer car warranty valid, do you need to use a specific make/model of tyre? And can you have them fitted by any tyre fitters?
I don't really know as it's the first brand new car I've ever owned (something I wish I'd never done now, but that's another story)
Thanks in advance...

You can use any tyre brand you want.

For safety you need to ensure you order the correct size. Diamond cut wheels are notoriously easy to damage & corrode quickly. After the tyre replacement is carried out look very carefully at the rim for damage, if you find any have it repaired or make a claim against the tyre fitter.

I know this thread started a long time ago, but it's always good to keep them going and updated!

My car has Conti's fitted, two are now ready for the knackers yard and the other two haven't got too much life left in them. After doing a lot of research (never knew you could do so much research into rubber!) I have ordered 4 x Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres through Blackcircles. They seem to have very good reviews and good fuel and wet grip ratings. Also they are currently cheapest through Blackcircles at £167.02 fully fitted per tyre. I am getting them fitted on Wednesday so looking forward to seeing what they are like.

My Qq has done 25,000 miles and two of the Cont's are original (the now knackered ones), so have done pretty well. The other two I had fitted at 11,000 miles (they were bald as a badger), and although have a bit of life left, don't seem to have worn as well as the originals. I do rotate my tyres to even up the wear.

Cheers
Doug

These sound like the tyres I replaced my Conties with. I also increased the wall height by going for 225/55/19 instead of 225/45/19. There is a significant tyre wall bulge outwards compared to the Conties that are very streight. They also get hotter when driving that increases the tyre pressure by 4 - 5 psi.

Well I had the new Michelins fitted on Wednesday and it will be interesting to see how they wear compared to the old Contis. As you say Daewar, there is a bit of a tyre wall bulge which should add some protection to the alloys. I dread scuffing them as had them all re skimmed last November. Touchwood, so far so good, still looking like new with no marks. Even the tyre fitter had to check my alloys before fitting the new ones as he didn't believe they could be unscuffed! Still they did a great job and haven't marked the alloys when changing the tyres.

I would be very interested if your MPG drops. I am seeing about a 10mpg drop with my Michelins, but I have also changed to 55 profile so I expected the computer to show a little reduction, add this to the heat produced by my tyres, makes me think they are not to energy efficient. So please if you can tell me how you get on with the mpg :)

I will let you know how my mpg performs Daewar, haven't done many miles yet on the new tyres. What I can say, is that I find the ride much better and smoother, not noticing the bumps in the road so much, but then this could be down to having loads of lovely new tread on my tyres, instead of riding on nearly bald Contis!

Cheers

2 of the original Conti s had to replaced as the outermost tread had almost completly vanished due to poor alignment. Replaced them with Bridgestone Turanza T005 and got the alignment done. So far, feel a much quiter and confident drive.

Am on 18" wheels & the originals had done only 35,000 kms :(

My car came fitted with Bridgestones, original tyres with 6000 Miles on them, I’ve never knowingly had Bridgestones before, but they appear fine to me. Having just done a 220 mile mainly motorway trip at the weekend I found them fairly quiet and sure footed, and they don’t appear worn at all.
My wife’s last two cars have Continentals fitted and at nearly 12000 Miles they have loads of tread left, mainly town work and the odd trip.
The Bridgestones do seem to envelop the alloys nicely allowing for the odd curbing without damaging the metal.

Daewar, further to your post on here about MPG. I have now done some long journey's, and must say that my MPG has improved since replacing my worn out Conti's with Michelin's. Not a lot in it mind you, but it has improved.
