I bought my car with 9.000 miles on the clock and the treads (on Continental SportContact 5) seemed OK but they are now (at 16,000 mile) down to 2.5mm. On checking them I see they are 225/45R19 96W Extra Load (on all four corners) yet when I go to a site like blackcircles they say it should be a 92W (standard load).

Are my tyres still OEM or have they been previously changed from 92W to 96W ? I don't want to be paying the extra for the Extra Load if its not required.

Thanks.

As long as ones you fit are listed on the plate by driver's door, your insurance coy would not be concerned.

Thanks everyone. Think I am going to go for a pair of NEXEN N'FERA SU1 this time round. The reviews seem very good.

Regarding the codes the 92/96 relates to load index 92 up to 630kg / 96 up to 710kg
The V or W symbol relates to speed rating eg: V = 149mph and W relates to 168mph

So it could be said that the original 96W tyres originally fitted to the QQ are very high spec. and maybe a lesser specification could save you money and still be within safe limits
