I'd chock the front wheels and do them quickly with the engine running. Stupid idea that you can't release them any other way. What if you were involved in an accident and had to push the car out of the carriageway? Are you saying it couldn't be done?

You just stand and watch as a car crashes into yours, as described in this post...

Interestingly another post in that thread says you can release it...

The parking brake can also be released when the
ignition switch is in the OFF position, provided the
key is in the ignition switch; or for vehicles with
push-button ignition switch before a door is opened.
Press the brake pedal and push the parking brake
switch.

So sounds like you just park up, turn off the ignition, then press the brake pedal and push the switch.... hopefully you are parked on a completely flat surface if you do!

Seems that the point is being missed.
I am not a mechanic but the simple answer is the electronic parking brake automaticall adjusts itself. To renew the pads this must be rewound and reset to the start point. Hence the need for special equipment. Not a case of simply releasing the parking brake. Or something like that!!

Chock the front wheels and do the job with the engine running. Not possible and in my personal opinion a crazy idea.

This subject of Rear Brakes is getting interesting as our QQ goes in for a Major Service & TÜV (MOT) first week in Aug. I found what appears to be the Nissan No.: D4060-4EA0A but cannot find any data on the materials used. What I did find was a write up on different Brake Materials available generally which might be of interest - Dave ;)

UPDATE: The saga continues.

Prior to taking my Qashqai to the Independent garage I telephoned to check if they had the diagnostic equipment available to wind back the calipers. I was assured they did. Long story short it transpired that they didn't. Although they have the equipment they don't have the software for the 2014 J11Qashqai. They were extremely apologetic about that and telephoned an Independent specialising in Nissan. It transpired that Nissan have not released the relevant software.
I commented that I have been unable to obtain a price from my Nissan dealer to fit discs and pads that I provide, so it looks as if I am left with a set of rear discs and pads that cannot be fitted. At MOT and service last week I was advised by my Nissan Dealer that the discs were corroded and the pads are 85% worn.
The engineer with many years as an MOT tester offered to check the discs and pads for me. He informed me that the pads were nearer 25% worn not 85% and the discs whilst exhibiting some corrosion it was nothing to worry about.

Last year I had a lot of problems with my dealer when the lane departure system failed after windscreen change and recalibration. The car is now outside it's warranty so after my latest problem with the brakes I won't be returning to the dealer. Next year I will return to the Independent to have the car serviced and perhaps by then Nissan will have released the software.

Nissan, don't you just love them?!!

It is quite worrying if they say 85% when only 25%, are they just saying that to make a quick buck selling you something you don't actually need? Maybe you need a third opinion to see which is most likely correct.

I hope you can get a refund on the 3rd party set you bought.

This is the tool that 3rd parties use for releasing EPBs. Nissan are indeed absent from the vehicle list in the EPB section...
