Apple Car Play

Hello everyone!

So I'm new here, I did do a bit of a quick look but couldn't find what I needed, apologies now if I missed something.

I was looking at the Apple Car Play headunits on Halfords and wondered if anyone has fitted these to a J10 and with what success/failures?

Do the steering controls still work? any connectivity issues?

I had an Android headunit on my previous vehicle with a carplay "adapter" but it would cut in and out constantly and I only assumed that due to when it was cutting out it was after around 15-20mins use so I assume it was an overheating issue. So because of this ive been put off the Android Units. I know the Carplay ones are expensive and I dont have more money than sense, but im happy to purchase something that has some futureproofing. However before I spend a penny, I really need to do my research.

Thanks in advance guys :)

There is much more on the forum re fitting Android units than CarPlay ones.

Your best bet would be asking Halfords to be honest. What does your car have in terms of cameras?

£279 doesn't sound too expensive?

If you really want to gain a large headache have a look around Youtube. However, there is a review here of a Sony system against a lesser named China Android box that is gaining popularity. Dealing with China direct on this stuff of course is awkward. The Sony here is of interest and is easy access to the warranty.

The quirky business is the performance of your phone with such units...check that first in terms of reliability (connection wifi/BT) and functions. Also limitations Android v CarPlay. Android performance seems to be well settled at present from v7 at least. Its supposed to be a standard?

You will need the seller to demo such units in their shop I reckon. Waiting till after installation is likely not good.

I found this Apple Car Play video today which is very interesting and shows the installation of Apple Car Play in a QQ or X-Trail. Now for a DIY Guy or Trained Electronics Specialist it’s most probably a Doddle - might be of interest Dave 🤨
