Hi,is it just a faulty batch of these batteries or are all of them as bad as you say? my QQ has one and been on since new (2017).
If so can you change one yourself or is it a specialist job?

A batch...yes. A very big batch. My 2017 FIAMM died last February.

You can change it yourself except for 1 step. The last step is to configure the car to the fact that it has a new battery. It requires specialist test equipment for that either from the RAC or a Nissan dealer.

The configuration of the car to a new battery resets the usage count back to zero. This relates to the charging of the battery overtime.

I had (paid for) new one fitted by dealer, and they said if battery capacity/ maH rate was the same there's no need
to RECODE the ECM for new battery.
2014-19 J11A-14 1.5dci Ink Blue Tekna owner; now departed for a Mazda CX-5 GT Sport Nav, 2.0L Petrol :D

I've mentioned this topic on a recent post. I quoted directly from Nissans Diagnostic and Repair procedure documents. As such it means to me that some dealers are a bit slack. It relates to the preservation of modern batteries used in vehicles incorporating the Stop/Start "feature". Extract below from the Varta site:

A start-stop battery is a part of the on-board electronics and is linked to the vehicle electronics via the Battery Management System (BMS) and the battery sensor (EBS). The control unit detects the number of starts and the energy flow, monitors the state of charge and controls charging. When a start-stop battery is replaced, the energy managements system is programmed by the diagnostic device in the workshop.

Incorrect DIY replacement of a start-stop battery can cause malfunctions. A battery replacement which is not carried out correctly can cause restriction or even failure of the start-stop function, which can result in increased fuel consumption and restriction of the comfort functions. The experts in a workshop have been trained to handle current battery technology and are familiar with battery replacements. They also know that an AGM must always be replaced with an AGM and an EFB must at be replaced with an EFB or an AGM.

thanks for replies,i will leave it for a specialist then.Just out of interest is it all the FIAMM batteries that are iffy?

Pejay 123, did you read this last week it was in several U.K. papers, here is just an extract. I would say that just refering to the Forum comments FIAMM Batteries are very IFFY - Dave 😉

The Qashqai was found to have the highest breakdown rate for cars that were less than three years old, with 21 per cent of owners claiming they needed to replace the battery in the 12 months prior to the survey, Which? said.

Some 28 per cent of Nissan Pulsar owners also reported battery issues in vehicles between three and eight years old, while 20 per cent of diesel Nissan Juke owners said they had problems with the fuel component system.

Nissan said it had taken steps to address the issue by replacing its battery supplier and had contacted 35,000 potentially affected Qashqai owners about getting a free update for their vehicle.
