USB failure ?

Hi

I have just taken delivery of a 2020 Tekna.

I have trawled through the Connect handbook and the owners handbook - but no joy.

In my old J11 N-Connecta - my very large USB stick ( NTFS formatted drive ) played my music no problem.

I have put this drive into the armrest box USB in my new car and nothing - the USB icon on the screen stays dim.
So I reformatted to Ex-TAT - no difference.

So I got a small 4GB USB that is FAT32 , and even this wont read.

Im a bit stuck now to be honest .
I have tried holding the power button to reset the system , but it makes no difference.
I have disabled the reading of music files in the phones bluetooth connection - so its calls only .

I'm at a loss unless there is either a conflict some place or a hidden setting

Many thanks
Steve

I'm not familiar with the 2020 head unit...thats if it is. I have the 2017 head unit (Connect 3) which to me is semi dumb. Certainly USB is, in that the detection of the USB device is completely automatic and hidden. To the extent that it does not throw any error messages.

I lost patience with it although I got it to work with Sandisk 4GB sticks and no other make (Kingston) or higher capacity.

Can you plug your mobile phone in with all Bluetooth off and see what happens. I seem to have a response that way but it took a few minutes to start playing. Plug the phone in to USB with an mp3 running.

If you fail then report it to the dealer and get them to test it in your presence.

My QQ is just over a year old.
Never tried a USB stick in either of my QQs.
However, when I connect the phone via a cable to the USB port in my current car (for CarPlay and charging) I get a "USB device detected" message.
If you don't get this message, then as above - get the dealer to earn his wages and sort it out for you.

Steve, I am no Electronics Whizz Kid but have you played around with the USB & BT Audio Settings as they should show up as “Yellow” it appears. I have a couple of INTENSO 8GB USB Sticks which are out of the Arc, really old but full of Music and they both work in the 3x Armrest USB Sockets
Just moving on have you played around with the 2x USB Sockets at the Rear of the Armrest - if you have them ?. I carried out a test today and both these USB Sockets worked but you needed to play with the BT Audio (Yellow).
I am not sure how clear this is you but you may need to try all options if not already done or dawn to your Friendly Nissan Dealer for advice or correction - all the Best Dave 🤨

Hi

When plugging in the USB stick into any of the 3 ports , the icon in the display does not become yellow , but the BT Audio does with the phone ( naturally )

1. I have the tried the USB with the Connect system with Blue tooth off
2. I have tried the USB in the Connect system with no phone in the car.
3. Most importantly - my test USB stick plays perfectly in my partners Qashqai

So its the car , but with lock down looming , I suspect my appointment in mid Nov will get cancelled.

So I got to the dealer with my recently purchased car - and the fault print out was staggering.

Yep - the USB hub or whatever needs replacing , but so does the forward sensor that takes care of Pro-Pilot , Cruise Control , anti Collision .
This devise is impacting upon so many systems , be glad when its fixed.

The USB hub is part of the head unit operating system (OS). It uses installed drivers to manage USB devices that are plugged in by the user. We have similar on PC's and phones. Don't know what that has to do with forward sensing?

Sounds like they simply did a fault scan and "accidently" found the other problems.

As I mentioned - the USB hub needs replacement , but so do the other parts.
Agreed they have no impact - was just letting people know that there were issues so to speak
