J10 Horn and steering wheel controls

Hi all, so the wifes 2007 QQ failed the mot on the horn not working. Something i had totally forgot about. It used to work only on full lock right but now has totally given up. I have checked connections on the horn etc and all seems fine. Would i be right in thinking that the clock spring will hopefully be the cure?
After dismantling the steering wheel etc, i noticed a spare connector, any ideas what it is?
Also, when we bought the car, its an acenta model but it has been fitted with a connect 1 model. The steering wheel controls on the left (volume, arrows, info and source buttons) do not work but the cruise control buttons on the right do. A few people have mentioned to me about a patch lead to make these work?
