Took the spare key apart to check the battery type before purchasing spare ones, and of course everything fell out of the key! Gave it a good clean (9 years worth of muck) with isopropyl alcohol and on trying the key it only opens the drivers door on the first push and all doors and boot on the second push - tried the key I always use and that is the same even though I haven't taken it apart...any ideas why this has happened?

Collywobble, could this be the problem, this is taken from the QQ J11 could be the same procedure. Is it worth a look - Dave 😉

Mine's a J10 and I found the answer in the handbook...they are called Convenience mode and Anti-hijack mode however and you use the keys to set whichever one you want. Strange that by just removing the battery from one key fob it changed the settings!

On a brighter note just done second fill up since buying the car - done 482.4 miles and needed 9.1 gallons to fill up - so 53.01 mpg! That's mainly 10 to 20 mile local journeys and one 100 mile round trip, i never drive at less that 2000 rpm to prevent fouling up and never use supermarket diesel. On this fill up also added a bottle of Techron D which is the recommended fuel additive from the Total group who I believe supply Nissan branded oil. Our last car SEAT Ibiza 1.2 TSi petrol struggled to get over 40 mpg so very very happy with the car so far....

i believe if you hold the key fob by the steering wheel and press both the lock and unlock at the same time this will cause or remove it.
