The wipers on my 2008 QQ have suddenly started to operate when the ignition is off. This can happened day or night, wet or dry. When the ignition is on there doesn't seem to be a problem, they operate as per the wiper stalk settings.

The only way I have found to stop them is to put the key in the ignition and turn on, though it is not necessary to start the engine. Once the key is removed again it can be anything from a few minutes to a few hours before they start going again.

The problem is intermittent and doesn't seem to fit a particular time pattern. I would guess it could be a sensor problem, but how can they operate when the ignition is off?

Clearly there is extra wear on the wipers, and a drain on the battery, quite apart from the annoyance.

The only way I have found to guarantee it doesn't happen while I am away from the car is to disconnect the battery

Any ideas?
