Hello

This is my first time posting in the forum. Any help is gratefully received.

Basically, my electronic hand brake will not work when using the handbrake switch. To get the handbrake to engage I have to turn off the engine. To get the handbrake to disengage I have to pull off in first gear.

My friend has a diagnostic machine and this flashed up that the handbrake module has failed.

Call me a tight arse etc, but I feel I could replace this part myself.

My question is though, does the new module have to be calibrated using a computer etc or can these just be unplugged, taken out and replaced??

My Qashqai is a J11 1.5 DCI.

Many thanks
Adam

Welcome to this forum.

I don't recall this coming up before and I don't have any expertise - but others do so let's see what they say.

Nissan Diagnostics for this car does require the use of their CONSULT tool to manage the Electric Parking Brake Control Module. There is a fairly extensive Remove, Install plus a final Configuration procedure. This includes calibration of the G Sensor within the module.

I'd say this is far beyond DIY and is a nuisance IMO. The diagnostics I have are likely out of date.....not that far out though.

I am having the same trouble with my stop/start. On my J11 2017
I am getting a few warning lights on the dash, the stopstart won't work and the handbrake has to be applied manually.
Is this safe to drive like this...
Any help appreciated.

Welcome to this forum.

This is often caused by a failing battery. Your car is five years old - is it the original battery? If so perhaps a check on its health is required?

The need of calibrating new equipment both before usage and on a regular basis cannot be emphasized enough. By doing this, the machine's parameters will be kept within tolerance 1v1 battle
