I have a 2011 Qashqai Tekna. It has just failed its MOT for problems with headlight alignment and because the 'Headlamp levelling device is inoperative'. There is a space in the switch panel, next to the anti-slip switch and below the wing mirrors switch where a manual headlight levelling switch might go. However, I've read that the Tekna model has automatic headlight levelling. Also, I can't see any loose cable which would connect to a manual switch. The car has never failed its MOT for this before. Should there be a manual levelling switch?

Likely not. The levelling of the front lamps is calculated from the height of the rear of the car. That uses the tail lamp and speed signal to make the calculation. There is an Auto leveller control unit doing this. So its a bit complicated.

About 3 error codes (DTCs) are available. The system will need Nissan specific tools to setup (CONSULT)

Thanks. I found the blanking plate in the fuse compartment below the switch panel, so that confirms your thoughts on the manual switch. Do you know if there's a fuse or relay that controls the auto-levelling motor(s)?
I've also noticed that the headlamp washers are not coming out as they should (after every 5 windscreen washes). Just wondering if these use the same electrics as the headlight levelling motors at some point?

Welcome to this forum.

Can't add anything sorry. For a car of that age earthing issues are not uncommon.

...l.

There appears to be a washer relay in the IPDM unit. However, power for the Leveller motors is not shown in Diagnostic diagrams.
