I've used a lot of different sat-nav systems and the Nissan Connect version is neither the worst or best of them. It's maps are a little dated and its traffic management rather poor (doesn't tell you of added time to journey for instance). But the POI database I've found very good. Routing isn't as clever as TomTom (e.g. no IQ routes) but it's rarely let me down and usually got me where it needs to.

Remember TomTom are selling a Sat Nav and have one thing to focus on, not a car with a long list of features to tick to compete with others. Car systems are not going to trouble them too much anytime soon for features or sophistication. You have your smartphone for that.

Hmm. Thanks for your comment, Kentishman. I'll phone the dealership next week and ask why the address line is greyed out. They won't know, of course, and will suggest contacting Nissan customer service. The phone will have an eternal queue and the email will go unanswered, so if anyone on here knows why my address line is greyed, then I'd appreciate shared wisdom. As for its not being in Nissan's focus, it isn't. I believe it's supplied by Bosch, so it's a sub-contract deal. Bosch can soak the users for upgrades because they are tied to their system, so I expect Bosch, who are responsible for the thing, to get it right. At least get the simple, basic guidance right. I'm not interested in bells and whistles, just something to get me as near as possible. One could extend the argument to say that Nissan's entire focus isn't on the tyres, so go to a tyre specialist if you don't want a tyre that's flat at the bottom. 90% isn't good enough, like 90% of a windscreen isn't good enough, or 90% of an air filter etc. All items made by other firms and bought in by Nissan. All I've ever done with the TT is bung in a postcode. It sometimes asks me to choose the target street and it's got me there. That's all I ask of Nissan's Bosch system and it doesn't do it.Cheers, guys. DaveL

Actually I recall watching a YouTube vid and it was from the MD of the company who made the Connect System and it wasn't BOSCH but some American software company I never heard of, so they prob contracted it out too! Maybe that's why getting new apps is so slow and heavily US focused (they have a lot more to choose from over there).

I'm running both at the moment. My TonTom Live has always been great. As my Connect is currently awaiting investigation by Nissan Technical and a swap to a new unit it would be unfair to state that whilst my TomTom had me near Heathrow last week the Connect had me in the sea just off Brighton.

I gather that TomTom have now signed up with Bosch, yesterday 21 July.As I, and I suspect others, have found TomTom's maps and information more sophisticated than Bosch's in the past let us hope that we get enhanced system upgrades in the future from this partnership.Just one worrying comment on the press comment: "Bosch will provide technology to make TomTom's digital maps more accurate and better able to include data produced by a car's systems" This is the complete opposite to my experience of the mapping detail offered from the two companies.

I wholly concur with dobXdavids' post. Having tried various flavours of SatNav over the years the Connect system in my new Tekna is a very poor also-ran. Even my previous Nissan (a Navara of some age now) had a superior in-built system. Nevertheless, neither come within a "country mile" of dedicated units or smartphone/tablet apps such as TomTom or CoPilot, both of which I've used with far greater satisfaction. Without further comment from Bosch, ".....more accurate and better able to include data....." smacks of the tail wagging the dog. Please Nissan/Bosch, don't spoil an excellent SatNav (albeit over-priced) product such as TomTom with additional already dangerous distractions such as Facebook and Twitter. Accurate, up-to-date route guidance most definitely, but a smartphone/tablet with all it's bells and whistles in your dashboard - NO NO NO. Unless things change for the better, this is my third and last Nissan (all bought from new). Quite a rant for a first post, thanks to you all for your understanding

I have no complaints on my Sat Nav - it generally get's me there and as I don't know where I'm going any time I use it, I can't compare the route it took me (else i'd not have had to use it). That said, I know sometimes people run it to monitor traffic or just see which way it takes you and most times it takes me the route I would expect or takes me a better route than I had used.I rate Tom Tom for mapping and routes and often wonder why companies like Nissan don't build some kind of interface so you can run your phone screen on the display (so you could then use Waze, Tom Tom, Nav Free or any App based system you prefer).

My only previous experience with Nissan Sat Nav was a mate's X-Trail from about 4 years ago. It was so inferior to the TomTom in guidance and display. At the time I was using a TomTom so was a bit concerned about the SatNav on the QQ. I also read on this site about all the problems people were having about the Connect SatNav losing the route etc. I had intended to continue using the TomTom even when we got the QQ as I was very happy with it (and used to it's foibles).I have to say though I'm completely happy with the QQ SatNav. In side by side testing it has usually picked the same route as the TomTom (even for "live traffic" situations). On a couple of occasions it even picks my "favoured" route in places where the TomTom choice irritated me (trying to get me to take a more awkward route IMHO). So for me, the TomTom is still in the glove box but stays there. Another road trip coming up next week so I'll get to play with it in more "unknown territory!"
