Ignition push start screech

Hi everyone

My 2015 qashqai had developed a fault just after warranty. My local dealership want to charge me £110 for an hour's 'diagnostics'! Basically when I start the engine by pushing the start button there is sometimes a screech from the steering column. Sometimes not, in which case it does it on switching the engine off and opening the doors. A mechanic today said it was the 'ignition lock' and he insisted it was normal... its not. It's only started in the last two months.

Anyone got any tips on how to fix it without the diagnostic charge. Good mechanic happy to look at Nissans in Midlands area?

2015 model is within 3 year NISSAN warranty period??

Ask them to put in a goodwill claim under warranty. Nothing to lose; the problem certainly
isn't 'normal'.

Are you sure it is not the ignition lock or steering lock? I heard it from day one. Only not when opening door before switch off the engine. In that case i get a beeping alarm

It is indeed normal. It is the steering lock. With surrounding traffic noise sometimes you notice it and sometimes you don't, that's all. It's always done it and is not a fault.

mine is very quiet, although u can hear it actuate. Would be good if u can get a schematic and give it a clean
