Hi,

I recently had a 1.5dci Acenta Premium 64 plate qashqai and I not had chance to test everything yet but I have noticed when turning the air con on there is a loud hissing noise coming from where the fans are? It also does not get cold like air con should.

Also when having the heater on it seems that unless it is on around 23 degrees it does not seem to warm the car up even if the engine temp is up to normal. On previous cars I seem to remember that around 19 degrees and the car gets warm. I have read a few things on here the Air con could be to do with the condenser would this also be the same for the heating?

Any help would be great as Nissan have give me a year warranty and don't really want to be messed about with it if it can be done under warranty.

Thanks
Dom

It's tricky at this time of year to test the air con, because in reality it's climate control so if you turn it right down to 16.5 and it's 14 outside then the computer will think it needs to warm up not cool down. Only setting it to LO in cool weather would produce cold air.

Having said that, it's very warm for the time of year, 21C here up in the NW today, so it should be nice and cool if you set it a few degrees lower.

Mine has always made the hiss for a few seconds shortly after turning the air con on, so that bit is normal, you're just hearing the gas whoosh around as it gets going. It's the circulation in the expansion valve you are hearing.

Ok how long should the hiss last though as I have turned it on but it does not seem to stop making the noise. I will have to give it another test im assuming if the hissing does not go away then there is another problem with it?

Oh it's only 2 or 3 seconds long shortly after turning on the air con. Where are you hearing the hissing from, the vents? If it does not go away, have you tried trying to determine exactly where it is coming from?

No I not done that yet it just sounds like it is coming from the vents and thats it but does not seem to turn off like you said. I will have to turn it on and open the bonnet to see if I can see where it might be coming from maybe?

Just a quick update on this i booked it in with nissan, the problem was one of the pipes had a hole in it so they had to replace the pipe and re gas and now everything works as it should.

Hopefully warranty paid for the regassing which is v. expensive with the new gas Nissan use.

On a bit of a side note, my J11 2014 needed re-gasing this summer, and after trying to shop around I had no option but to go back to the dealer, who had quoted £189!! When they had finished apparently even though it had the new size fitting, the gas needed was the 'old' type, so only cost £90. Something to consider that many early J11's will be reaching 3 years +
Upgraded from J10 Tekna to J11......let the fun begin!

Been mentioned elsewhere but Westway Nissan dealerships do fixed priced air con services, including re-gassing, for £79 and that has been confirmed to be the new style gas if needed.

Jeet, you mentioned above that the „Old“ Air Con Fluid was used when the QQ J11 uses the „New“ R1234yf Fluid and I am sure that this cannot be mixed. If you look under the Bonnet of your QQ you should see this and this was when ours was new in 2014. if you use „Search“ this topic of Air Con had some of the biggest Posts regarding safety, costs, leaks etc.... - Dave 😉
