Hi all,

Just a quick question. I need to order a new battery for the key fob of my wife's Qashqai. I don't have her keyfob with me so was wondering if anyone knew what battery type I will need?

She has 64 plate 1.2 petrol model.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi

One of my keyfobs failed to work properly recently so I renewed the battery with a Panasonic CR2032 (same make as the one it replaced). However it still didn't work properly ( have to give it a shake to get it to work). The car was due to go in for a service so when I took it in I mentioned this to the service desk asking them to look at it. As per usual the rubbish dealer that I use gave me some cock and bull story that Nissan don't rate these batteries (even though it states in the handbook that a CR2032 is the appropriate replacement battery), and it would cost me £20 for their "recommended" battery before they then look to see if the fob has a fault! I told them not to bother, and the keyfob in question is now my spare. Thank goodness my Qashqai is three years old next October so out of warranty and I can get it serviced by somewhere competent!

When you replace your battery, if everything is hunky dorey with it, please let me know as I may tackle my local Nissan dealer again about it.

Cheers

Doug, one thing I am not and that is „Tight“, but where possible I change my own Watch, Key Fob or whatever Batteries where possible. Now in our 2x Key Fobs are fitted, wait for it „Lidl“ Tronic CR2032 Batteries and these have been changed twice in 3 years and work. I have stopped buying the Panasonic types and even the „Chinese“ ones from our € Shop work - there are no doubt some technical issues but as yet these have not shown up - Dave :D

Thanks for that Dave. Like you I always, where possible, change my own batteries, so knew that after putting a new battery in the fob, and it still not operating correctly, must be some other fault, and also knew the guy on the service desk was talking utter rubbish. I guess that day I was not in the mood to do battle again with my local Nissan dealer, so just told them not to bother, I can live with having to give the fob a shake, and it is only the spare now anyway.

When the battery needs replacing in the other fob, I will hot foot it down to Lidl's for my replacement!

Cheers.

DOUG, try carefully pushing retaining spring inwards slightly with battery removed, to better grip battery; then slot in and try again.

Also, remember to wipe the battery clean before installing as the natural oil on fingers can cause a problem with these coin batteries.

Also If you can, check the battery with a multimeter, it should read over 3V (my new Maxell CR2032 read 3.3v) and the old Panasonic that I took out was 2.9V.
Worked like a charm and at a distance with the new battery.
