All of the incidences of "Key" theft I have seen happen when the car is outside the owners house, popping your keys in the can will block the Keys RF signal.

When this problem first arose we kept wrapping the Keys in Ally Foil but it was a pain to keep unwrapping them so that is why I spoke to Themis Security and bought the Wallets, much more convenient - Dave :)

I tried DIY - laid a tin with foil but it didn't work for me. Bought a faraday pouch at the end.

At the frequency on which the fob keys operate, which is 433.8 MHz (70cm) I believe, no RF would escape a tin with its lid firmly secured.

We also tried a small biscuit tin a few years back and it did not work but it could have been a thin gauge material, that’s when we tested the Ally Foil. What has come up on the News again here is going back to the old idea of using Steering Locks. One in particular seems to come out well and that is the DiskLoc Full Cover Lock which is priced though at around €120 +. Another method mentioned was this DNA Method - Dave :D

Sorry to keep informing on this subject but it’s there and ain’t going away at present and at least it keeps members aware, as it does not look like the Bill are having much success either. This could highlight the problem for new members - Dave 🤨

You shouldn't need to, the tin should be sufficient, the key fob is low power and the RF it emits is UHF, I put my key in a metal coffee tin, with a lid, and could not detect any RF emissions, I could detect the UHF signal from our water meter, they use the signal to read the water meter. Both the key fob and water meter use an RF signal in the 433 MHz range.

Hear what you say but there are too many “ shouldnts “ in your reply. Others have said they have tried a tin and it was not successful. Therefore my suggestion to use the lead foil. Surely that would guarantee no signal getting out of the box?
I have tried a tin box and it was not successful.
