In the UK there has been a spate of cars being stolen off owners house drives, it seems to involve cars with smart keys. A lot of people have the habit of leaving their smart keys in the hallway near the outside door.Criminals have been using scanners from outside your house to scan the code off your key and then they are able to unlock and drive away in your car. A simple way to help prevent you being a victim is to purchase a special key pouch which is lined internally which prevents a scanner being able to read the code off your keyfob,it further helps not to leave your key in the hall.
These pouchers are quite cheap,I paid about £8 for one and are available on the usual internet sites, a small price for peace of mind.
Regards,
Mike

I'm sceptical about this, certainly with the Qashqai. The buttons on the doors only work if the key is within about a metre max? Hence beyond that they can't detect a signal? So the signal is rapidly dissipating? So unless you keep your keys very close to the front door, then there shouldn't be a problem. Mine are usually about 6m away. Or are we perhaps saying the scanners are much more powerful than those in the car?

... these relay devices that can pick-up a signal up to 30-metres away.
Really? If that was the case it would be SO much easier just to hang about in a car park and scan people as they got out of their cars before they managed to put their keys into the special cases that 99% of people won't have in any case. Then 5 minutes later get into the car...
Can anyone find ANY articles specifically relating to Qashqais? I realise there are reports of Land Rovers, Audis and Mercedes.

Mike, just enter into “Search” Area “Themis Security” and a whole variety of subjects related to this problem will arise. We have the “Themis Security” Pouch - Dave

Gloucester, this report is very similiar to what has already been in the Press from other Papers. I believe your comment is correct on the QQ distance but this was a list posted by Gel carried out by the ADAC in Germany and it inc. the QQ - Dave

If you had read your attachment it does actually state the QQ !

That's just merely a list of cars with keyless entry though - it doesn't mean anything - and, yes, I already knew Qashqai was mentioned there.
There's no actual analytical testing taken place however to show which cars may be more or less susceptible to this problem, and despite a good Googling I couldn't find any reports of stolen Qashqais.

To be fair the QQ is hardly on the list of desirable cars for organised criminals who are the main culprits for this kind of car theft. I think our QQ is a great car but it's not a range rover or Mercedes s class is it.

The ford fiesta st isn't on that list either and they are forever being swiped from the side of the road , so much so I have seen 3 now with old school steering wheel locks fitted (The big yellow bar types)
Tough one as if some one was gonna swipe my car is rather it dissapered never to be seen again than left with a very badly damaged car on my drive
Guys it's all down to how good you are insured lol

There are always the Plus & Minus comments on this subject but to a lot of owners their vehicle is an expensive item whether it be a “Cheapie” or an “Upmarket” Model. To me “Prevention” where possible is the name of the Game - Dave

I agree to most myself included a car is an exspensive purchase and I don't leave my car in places that I would consider dodgy. And as another poster has said I'd rather it gone than damaged on my driveway. I'd also prefer a theife with a laptop steal my car than some youth with a hammer and screwdriver.
