System fault

Have anybody had this "System Fault" light up on your display? I have it several times after a couple of minutes of driving without any reasonable cause. Turning off the car and turning it on back again after an hour or so, it's gone but sometimes it comes back again. I want to take to the dealer but am afraid they will say all kinds of faults and charge me a whole lot of money for nothing, not to say about wasted time.
Some say it's the battery but it is a new car and of course a new battery (Tekna 2017 J11B 1.2 turbo).
Other say it's the radar on the auto emergency brakes that is dirty.

Handbook:

36. Unavailable: Front Radar Obstruction warning (if so equipped)
If the sensor area of the front bumper is covered with dirt or obstructed, making it impossible to detect a vehicle ahead, the Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) system, Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) with pedestrian detection system or Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) system is automatically turned off. The Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) system warning light (orange) will illuminate and the warning message will appear in the vehicle information display. If the warning message appears, park the vehicle in a safe location and turn the engine off.
Check to see if the sensor area of the front bumper is blocked. If the sensor area of the front bumper is blocked, remove the blocking material.
Restart the engine. If the warning light continues to illuminate, have the Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) system checked. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.
For more details, see “Forward Emergency Braking (FEB)” (P.5-80), “Forward Emergency Braking (FEB) with pedestrian detection system”
(P.5-86) or “Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC)” (P.5-60).
...
SYSTEM TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE
Condition A
When the radar sensor picks up interference from another radar source, making it impossible to detect a vehicle ahead, the FEB system is automatically turned off.
The FEB system warning light (orange) will illuminate.
Action to take
When the above conditions no longer exist, the FEB system will resume automatically.
Condition B
In the following conditions, the FEB system warning light (orange) will illuminate and the “Unavailable: Front Radar Obstruction” warning
message will appear in the vehicle information display.
. The sensor area on the front of the vehicle is covered with dirt or is obstructed.
Action to take
If the warning light (orange) comes on, stop the vehicle in a safe place and turn the engine off. Clean the radar cover on the front of the vehicle with a soft cloth, and restart the engine. If the warning light continues to illuminate, have the FEB system checked. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.
. When driving on roads with limited road structures or buildings (for example, long bridges, deserts, snow fields, driving next to long walls).
Action to take
When the above conditions no longer exist, the FEB system will resume automatically.
Condition C
When the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system is OFF, the FEB brake will not operate. In this case only visible and audible warning operates. The FEB system warning light (orange) will illuminate.
Action to take
When the VDC system is ON, the FEB system will resume automatically.
SYSTEM MALFUNCTION
If the FEB system malfunctions, it will be turned off automatically, a chime will sound, the FEB system warning light (orange) will illuminate and the “Malfunction” warning message will appear in the vehicle information display.
Action to take:
If the FEB system warning light (orange) comes on, stop the vehicle in a safe location. Turn the engine off and restart the engine. If the warning light continues to illuminate, have the FEB system checked. It is recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer for this service.
SYSTEM MAINTENANCE
The sensor *A is located on the front of the vehicle.
To keep the system operating properly, be sure to observe the following:
. Always keep the sensor area on the front of the vehicle clean.
. Do not strike or damage the areas around the sensor.
. Do not cover or attach stickers or similar objects on the front of the vehicle near the sensor area. This could cause failure or malfunction.
. Do not attach metallic objects near the sensor area (brush guard, etc.). This could cause failure or malfunction.
. Do not alter, remove or paint the front of the vehicle near the sensor area. Before customizing or restoring the sensor area, it is
recommended that you visit a NISSAN dealer.

Thank you so much for that extended and very interesting answer.
That was more or less what I suspected. Now I know what was the problem

I had this problem today with my car (2017 Tekna DCi) it wouldn't start and was telling me it had a key system failure, stop/start problem, it didn't recognize the key fob and there was a clicking from the alternator as it tried to start. I rang my local Nissan and they told me it was likely the battery and to call the RAC which came free when the car was bought. After 2.5 hours the very, very, helpful RAC guy came and diagnosed a U/S battery which was dated 02/05/2017. To cut a long story short and after a few phone calls to his Tech Department he told me my battery fell into the "KNOWN” problem battery range and he could change it free of charge, which he did. He assures me I won't have any more problems and not to lose faith in the car......if only, I haven't tried it since but from now on I'll wonder if it's going to start. Luckily I was at home when the car failed to start, I'm glad it didn't happen on the M25 at rush hour with my 4 grandchildren on board. The RAC guy said it was a known problem across a number of Nissan models as they all use the same battery, if so, shame on you Nissan for not instigating a recall or as a minimum letting owners know of a potential problem…..QED

Today I've discovered that the "known" battery fault is with batteries with a date-stamp of 2016. I've discovered this as my Dec'17 n-Connecta 1.6 diesel automatic decided to play up this morning whilst out shopping. Having driven into town and done the shopping, i returned to my car to come home. The ignition was on, as i was opening the windows and listening to the radio, but putting my foot on the brake and pressing the ignition to start the car was when it all went wrong. A loud click (like a circuit breaker sound) and everything went black. No radio, no lights at all on the dash, nothing at all. Pressing the ignition again did nothing. Added to that the brake peddal went solid, no movement in it. Oddly though, open the door and close it again and the ignition would bring the power on., but no change to the brake pedal. Pressing the brake and ignition just shut everything down again. Opening the door restored power.

Put a call into Nissan (my dealer's service department), "probably a flat battery". Having read your comment yesterday morning about known issues i was already suspecting that this mite be the problem, so wasn't that surprised. Called the RAC who came out to look at it. Fisrt thing he did was take a look at the terminals on the battery. And this is where it goes in a different direction. Giving the RED (live?) terminal cable a bit of a press and then a bit of a twist, the cable and connector just slid up and off the post in his hand. "They're always like this. These Renault connectors are crap!" was his reply. Probably just arc'd the terminal and shut everything down. Chsck the battery and its fine. It's stamped 2017 so you'll be fine with that one. Tighten the connector and all sorted.

I will admit that after calling the RAC, I was told 20 minutes or so. Ok i thought, no problem. But after about 10 minutes it thought id try it again. And for feck's sake it started first time. Typical.

So i suppose it's fair to say that it's a very well known problem with thebattery if its a well known issue to all of the RAC guys.

I think you will find the "known" battery fault dates back earlier than 2016. I have an October 2015 Qq and had the battery pack up and changed under warranty as it was one of the known faulty batteries. Also had an air intake temperature sensor and oxygen sensor replaced under warranty as known faults with them. I was beginning to wonder if the car had any "non-known faulty" components, let's hope not!

The car will be three years old on 1st October, just got it serviced and MOT'd before the warranty expires!
