Just noticed my fog lamp lense has smashed on my 15plate j11. Anybody fitted after market fog lamps (led ones)? If so which?
Thanks.

Not changed mine to LED but have seen some for sale on aliexpress, but as I have not tried them can not say if they are any good.
I have also seen more expensive ones but can not remember where

I was looking at changing to these LED fog +DRL in one lamp, they look identical fitting as the originals on the j11

Hi

Apologies if this isn’t the correct place to post this. I just wanted to share my experience with a smashed front fog lamp on my 2017 Qashqai as there is virtually nothing online that helped. My car is the facelifted version with the rectangular shaped lamps.

I noticed the smashed glass when I was cleaning the car and assume it was the usual flying stone that caused the damage. My first thought was to investigate online how easy it was to replace the lamp myself but could find very little that helped. Meanwhile I put in an enquiry with my local Nissan dealership for a price to replace the lamp . The price came back at an astonishing £424 – for supply and fit of a moulded plastic lamp made in China!! They said that most of the cost was for the lamp which was about £300 with the rest being the labour charge. She also mentioned that it was about 30 mins work to fit. I was quite surprised to say the least and it was only later that it dawned on me that at approx £125 for 30 mins labour that works out at £250 per hour – really? Both outrageous charges which on principal I would not pay.

So, with little guidance available, and not having done anything other than very routine maintenance on a car for about 30 years, the tool kit came out and I started to look at removing the lamp. To cut a long story short, I managed to complete the removal in about 2 hours and refitted the new lamp in about an hour. With guidance I could probably have halved these timings. I sourced an identical new lamp online for £70.

If it helps anyone else with the same issue, here’s how I did it:

1. Remove relevant wheel to gain better access and fit axle stand for additional safety. Chock diagonally opposite rear wheel.
2. Remove small plastic curved guard, two screws and one plastic centre lug.
3. Remove two screws on the underside of the main splash guard. You should now be able to ease back the splash guard and gain access to the rear of the light fitting casing. I used a 6 inch approx batten to hold the guard back. Remove the lamp holder by twisting anti-clockwise and pulling free.
4. The casing has two screws (bolt head type) at the top and two push on lugs at the bottom. Remove the two screws/bolts and you should be able to ease the casing off of the lugs. Note that there are a couple of unrelated cables attached to the casing which prevent its complete removal so you will need to work with this in situ.
5. There are three screws (bolt head again) that attach the lamp to the casing and these can now be seen from the front opening on the bumper. It’s a little tricky manoeuvring the casing into position to access these screws/bolts but it can be done. Remove the bolts and the lamp can now be pulled free of the casing and out via the wheel arch.
6. Refitting is just reversing the removal steps.

Apologies if this is a bit long-winded but if it helps save someone about £350, then it will be worth it.

Regards
Peter

I suspect the calculation is more like this:

Light = £303.33
Fitting = £50.00 (30 minutes at £100/hour)
Total excl. vat = £353.33
Total incl. vat = £424.00
